I am intrested in trying it, I read its unique in its actions, it lasts 12 hours, and it doesnt start taking effect until an 1 hour after ingestion, and full effect *i think* until 5 hours.
Is teh stimulant effect noticeable?
Thanks!

Cylert is comparable in its stimulant effect to Ritalin,in my experience of course, and has a substantially longer half-life. It is given a black-box warning for hepatotoxicity, so you have to sign a release form agreeing not to hold the maufacturer responsible for any liver injuries you might sustain from it. It is usually used as a last-line option for this reason. At the time I used it, it had not yet received such a classification.

How did it make you feel? how long did it last too,
Now Ritlin has a side effect i cant tolerate, the "zombie" side effect, where you feel no emotion or express it at all. Higher doese usally emlimunated this effect, but still im wondering if Cylert has this side effect.
Thanks! not many people know much on Cylert

The hepatotoxicity problem, although relatively rare, seems to have severely limited this drug's use. My pdoc has been in practice for around 25 years and says he has never used it. "Mosby's 2004 Drug Guide" states that "Since pemoline's marketing in 1975, 15 cases of acute hepatic failure have been reported to the FDA...Of the 15 cases reported as of December 1998, 12 resulted in death or liver transplantation, usually within 4 weeks of the onset of the signs and symptoms of liver failure. The earliest onset of hepatic abnormalities occurred 6 months after initiation of pemoline."
On the plus side, this is only a Schedule IV controlled substance, in contrast to Ritalin, which is Schedule II. While refills are less of a hassle, and there is also less potential for abuse/tolerance, pemoline seems to be considered less effective than the Schedule II drugs. When you add in the omnipresent spectre of liver failure, even though it is clearly rare, this seems to be a drug that most doctors don't care to bother with. I can't really say I blame them.

Is there any way to make sure that your liver isn't getting damaged or to find out if it will harm your liver at all or not? Anything other than liver function tests? How often would you have to take liver function tests, and for how long?

I have never taken Cylert. Usually my doctor is not at all conservative about prescribing restricted drugs, but he will not prescribe this. He said that liver damage can occur well in advance of abnormalities showing up on liver function tests. At first I was annoyed that he wouldn't prescribe it and I thought he was just being a fuddy-duddy, but now I think he made the right decision. I have so much difficulty with metabolizing most medications, and I think if anyone would have trouble with Cylert, I would! If I hadn't had so many horrific reactions to medicines in the past, I probably wouldn't feel this way, but I've been through the wringer so many times, I'm not going to tempt Fate.
