I heard that 300mg/day is the max dose for effexor. I am a 24 year old female, 115 pounds and on 375mg/day of effexor. Is that too high? If it is, I feel weird tell my psychiatrist since SHE is the doctor, not me. Anyone know anything?
Thanks!

>I am a 400 pound man & 300mg was too much for me. If you have no trouble taking 375mg, then I would say that you are an ultra fast metbolizer & not to worry about it too much. Have you been monitoring your blood pressure? I think this is the best tool for judging Effexor doseages.

Panda.

I'm on 300mg, not 375mg, but I dont think 375mg is unusual or anything to worry about. I'm very very light, about 48kgs, and female and I seem fine with 300mg. If anything, its not enough. But I think pdoc is gonna add something different next time, coz just increasing my dose (for me anyway) hasn't been that effective. But in any case, you should ask your doctor about the dose size. She won't think you're critising her, you're just interested/concerned about the stuff that you're putting in your body. Honestly, I am like a doctor's worse nightmare! I seem to question EVERYTHING that I don't understand and get into a panic about all the possible things that could go wrong, and need her to reasure me that its all fine. Maybe thats to do with my anxiety, hehe. But seriously, I have major problems with not trusting the doctor or having faith in them. I'm sure they get lots of people like it in their feild, you know? Panicky, untrusting, worried, anxious... Most likely she'll just explain why she thinks 375mg is a good dose for you, and then you can relax :)

Hi S.P.:
Sorry, to jump in 'Effexor discussion,' ... but, I was VERY MUCH surprised the following quote you wrote,...>>> I am a 400 pound man .........<<<<
BECAUSE, I thought/believed that you are *she/female,* however 'Sad Panda' is 'Uni-sex,' then it can be used for both, 'male and female.'
Many of your responses regarding various psycho. medications are very informative, then I usually read most of your responses,... even meds. I've never been on.

> Thanks!I'm 32 (male) taking 375mg of Effexor XR. Doc wants to raise it because I'm treatment-resistant. He says that one woman responded to 800mg of Effexor.
Our brains....still a mystery.

FWIW, there was a fellow here for a long time who was taking 450mg per day. I believe he was a largish man, but at least it does tend to support the idea that higher doses may indeed be safe.
Of course, your mileage may vary -- and whether or not you respond is what matters. If you're responding well to it at this level, I doubt there's any reason to change it.
