I just started on Parnate and am trying to figure things out in terms of the dietary restrictions. I've got lists of the basics, but a big question is: what do you do when you eat out at a restaurant? Are there any types of cuisine to avoid, i.e. Indian, Ethiopian, Italian? Do you just need to quiz the waitstaff as to exactly what is in a given dish--and how much can you trust their answers? Thanks!

You should be okay if you avoid cheese and perhaps soy products. Even pizza is okay if it's from a chain, because they use processed cheese. You could try a small amount of soy sauce and see if it affects you. (That's what I did.) Then you can try larger amounts. I've eaten in Asian restaurants w/ no problem, and in Mexican resturants I just order something w/out cheese.
You should also carry a drug that will bring down your blood pressure if necessary. (I forget what it's called.) I also wear a medical alert medallion.
Remember that most cold and cough medicines are contraindicated, too.

I printed out the dietary restrictions onto a business size card. I usually choose one or two entrees from the menu and then explain to the wait staff that I have signficant dietary restrictions. I hand them the card and ask them to ask the cook/chef which they would recommend. Most places have been very accomodating. There is almost always something there I can have that I like. Once I've identified a couple things I like and can have, I usually stick with those.
Good luck. You can also find great dietary info. in the archives.
