Sorry chick, I know you struggle alot. Please don't take this as a suggestion, it's just a question--- Have you ever done a total med washout and been on no meds? Again, I'm just wondering if you had and if so, what happened with you during a med free time?

I apologize in advance, if that's too personal a question.

I do wish I had some answers for you. I know you've tried alot of things, but I believe you will find a good treatment. Keep fighting. My major problem was anxiety, agoraphobia, and panic attacks and Klonopin was a Godsend for me. I couldn't remember if the benzo's suited you or not. I do hope you can feel better soon.

Hi, I read one of your post. Do you have SP (Social Phobia) also. Anxiety, Panic, & Agoraphobia usually is related to SP, Hope this isn't to personal to ask. Do you only take Klonopin? I have all these things and I am considering taking an MAOI. I am presently on Paxil & Klonopin. It makes me VERY tired regardless of when I take it. If I am in an anxious situation I have to take extra klonopin. I could sleep all day get up for a few hours and go back to bed and sleep all night. I know exercise would help but where would I get the energy? Thanks bluebird

I don't mind questions at all and like sharing my experiences.

I weaned off K about 4 months ago after 2 1/2 years of use. My diagnosis was "Anxiety disorder with Panic" which pretty much included it all. My lack of being able to do well in social situations and with face to face interactions (or in public, in general) manifested as an avoidence coping mechanism due to the panic attacks leading to agoraphobia. But, I did have a fair amount of just generally not wishing to interact due to a constant level of fear.

Yes, I only used Klonopin. I had failed trials of SSRI's and Wellbutrin (that's not a good choice for us anxiety ridden, but I gave it a whirl). I can say, for me, the SSRI's made all my anxiety symptoms worse. They work great for some. My doc and I decided to try a benzo alone and see how it went. I'm very grateful I have a doc willing to do that - some are not so inclined.

It was a Godsend for me and my use of Klonopin was most successful as was my weaning to off and for now, my abilty to be off.

After my initial first 2 weeks of start up, Klonopin didn't make me drowsy and I do know that some folks continue to experience sleepiness even after a while on. I wish I knew how to help you with the sleepiness issue, but I have no good answer.

Have you considered trying MAOI's and why did you go off of the K? Just curious. Mine is about the same with the avoidance of most things, SP, and everything that goes along with it. Paxil, which I am in the process of coming off of, has provided some relief. But, I am very interested in the MAOI's. They say for what we have SP it works really well. I do realize the dietary limitations, but.....I think it might be worth me trying. It is true about SSRI's causing anxiety, especially at a higher dose. It has to many SE's. I am just interested in what all you have tried. Thanks for talking to me. bluebird

I tried Zoloft and Paxil and the Wellbutrin trial. Because my problem was really more anxiety based, as opposed to the depression end, it was decided to use something that was solely a "calm down" chemical. To tell the truth, as awful as things were, I was so leery of trying anything, talking me into the Klonopin was difficult. This gun shyness over meds was probably very much based on my anxiety. I had just had a difficult time with med trials.

In terms of my discontinuing, I was very much improved and functioning well. Klonopin after 2 years had caused, and I stress this was minor, a little problem with short term memory, retention, and some mild depressive symptoms. Again, nothing awful, but coupled with doing so well, my doc and I decided to give weaning to off might be possible. I would not hesitate to restart it if my situation changed.
