Unless you have temporal lobe ADHD, in which case they can help.

i have no choice but to take a benzo, for severe social phobia. It doesn't help my ADD but doesn't make it worse either. If it worsens anything it's depression.

I don't find this at all. Klonopin helped me think clearly and organize my life (although it's still far from perfect). Klonopin + Adderall helped even more, and the addition of Lamictal rounded things out.
ADDers often experience severe day-to-day anxiety, which is unhealthy and counterproductive. Benzos often can help a lot in this respect.
