Lexapro

Posted by sparky on June 24, 2004, at 16:39:14

I'm trying this again. I'm new here, so thanks for your patience.

I've been really down. My job is one that continually makes me feel less than, the anneverery of my dad's death is fast approaching, my wife is pre meno and on diet pills and has no desire while mine is peaking like never before and there are many feelings of failure and regret right now. To top it off I've also become very paranoid about the lack of intimacy combined with her significant weight loss and social life.

She diagnosed me with depression and read up on Lexapro. My doc agreed but suggested marriage counseling in addition.

So I just took my first pill. I've read about the decreased labido, missing orgasms and weight gain. I'm feeling like this is going to be a chemical castration. Angry is a good word for my current demeanor.

Any honest support is appreciated.

Those side effects don't happen to everyone, so you're probably going to be better off with a more optimistic attitude. If you expect those side effects to occur, the likelihood that they will occur may very well increase.

Sparky - I would suggest marraige counseling if you feel this way. It worked well for me. Have you talked to your wife about it?

And yes - have a good attitude! That will help! I have experienced no weight gain, still have a great libido AND my orgasm issues subsided after the first few weeks on lex! :)

I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, but I have absolutely no libido since I went on Lex.

I've been on Lexapro for about 6 months now and havent had noticeable sexual side effects...actually I think this is one area where the med is truly an improvement over Celexa as I used to be on Celexa before Lexapro and did experience some inorgasmia..

Thanks for the honesty all.

I guess I have to go through this. There's not many option left. I'm hoping for the best, but it's hard to be optimistic.

i was amazed at the low to no SE of lex. i had occasional mild nausea, it did not affect my ability to climax. as a matter of fact, because i felt better while on it, i was more interested in sex. this AD works relatively quickly (about 2 wks)and will take the edge off, things that used to bother you, wont. my problem was it pooped out in a couple months and i didnt want to up the dose (although i may go back on it if i dont have luck with something else) so now im "shopping" around for another AD. good luck - the lex should help.
