Hi, I have OCD that manifest itself mainly in the form of intrusive, unwanted thoughts. I have tried most all of the SSRI's and one of the older drugs Anafranil. But none of them help stop the intrusive, unwanted thoughts.
I was wondering if anyone had success with an OCD med. And if you did at what dose and how long did it take for it to reduce your symptoms.
I am not trying to be nosey or impolite by asking these questions. I will be seeing my pdoc in a couple of days and I would like to ask for a medication changne. But I want to be a little knowledgeable about the matter.
I cuurently take 40mg of Lexapro and 30mg of Remeron for the OCD. I also take 2mg of Klonopin for the anxiety the OCD creates.
Anyone's input or information would be greatfully appreciated. THANKS

effexor has lessened the intensity of my OCD...i'm on 75mg effexor and 45mg remeron+1mg risperdal for sleep...I'm not to the point where I would like to be, but is has helped some...In decreasing the intensity of the thoughts, in turn has decreased the anxiety they cause. I'm thinking of bringing up Ritilin on my next visit because it seems to slow my mind down to a point where I almost feel "normal". Hope u find something...peace

hello there, chemist here. luvox was approved by the FDA in 1994 for OCD, not as an anti-depressant. i have had a wonderful go at it, although Solvay screwed up their NDA in May, 2002 and the brand name is not marketed in the US, only generic, which is fine. and yes, i actually called Solvay and spoke to a pharmacist there just 2 days ago to confirm. i do 100 mg tid, and the anxiolytic effects are excellent, as are the AD (off-label). all the best, chemist
