Effexor Reduction

Posted by Buckeye Fan on May 17, 2004, at 7:56:52

Hi to all,
I have decided to reduce my 75mg daily dose of Effexor xr...down to 37.5 mg....for a few weeks and then stop completely.

I cannot seem to find the article on this site that instructed HOW to divide the 75 mg capsule in half

Any help would be appreciated

(I can no longer afford the prescription...so my only option is to divide my remaining samples of 75 mg in half)

Thanks in advance
BF

I guessed at it......you can get capsules at the drugstore and put the little beads in them.....don't stop completely...please...taper off of the 37.5 gradually also. It is a difficult drug to get off of!!!

According to my doctor, you cannot split the capsule because it is an extended release form and it will not work if you split the capsule. However, like the other replier said, be very careful because the side effects of weaning off of Effexor are horrible and I'm still in the weaning process!!!!

I ignored the time-released message and divided them anyway. I only had the side effect of the little electrical shocks and I understand those happen with several ADs. Go slow!!!

You can split the caps, the time release is built into the beads themselves. Only problem is you can't accurately split the doseage, but something close to 37.5mg would still be streets ahead of nothing.

Cheers,
Panda.
