Is it possible for one 2.5 mg dose of Zyprexa to leave side effects lasting for three or four days? I took one Wednesday night, and by Friday my mouth was sooooo dry. Now it's Sunday and I'm still feeling a bit out of it, and my mouth still feels dry, though not as badly. How long does it take for this stuff to leave your system?

Sorry to hear you're still feeling rough AMD, I doubt it's the Zyprexa unless you had an allergic reaction of some kind but I doubt that also.
You are on the smallest dose (2.5mg) and it can take a few days for the full effects to work. I was taking 5mg a day for a few weeks and it made me feel absolutely drained and depressed, all I could do was lie around all day, actually it's worth noting I was coming off Zispin 30mg(remeron in the U.S.) cold turkey so that played a big part in it. Zyprexa is a horrible drug in my opinion but it may help you.
Talk to your doctor, it could be the Celexa or you might need to keep taking Zyprexa. I would ask him/her for some Diazepam or some other benzo to get you through this hard time.

If it was just one dose, then its probably not the Zyprexa ... its rather insiduous because it takes a few days of "accumulation" in your system to get the full blown side effects. It did make me sleepy and got the hypotension pretty quick and all but "nastier" effects started progressively.
After 3 days, I started getting the sudden twitches ...
2 days later my hands were shaking most of the time
After 6 days I started having absence seizures and I had a hard time talking ... by the seventh day I was blacking out for a few seconds every hour or so ... it lasted for about 48 hours after I stopped.

Possibly. It has a half life of 25hrs (I think). If you multiply that number by 5, that is when it should be out of your system.
I took one Wednesday night, and by Friday my mouth was sooooo dry.Dry mouth is a plausible and common s/effect.

Hi:
I did have an experience in 'Dry mouth' occassionally(not every day tho') at the beginning of Zyprexa 2.5 mg. However, it faded away, ... probably over a few weeks' period. For me, Zyprexa is one of the best psycho.med. for my Bipolar with ultra rapid cycler.
For 'Dry Mouth, ... someone saying 'chewing gum' is helpful due to the production of saliva in your mouth,' but I never tried it because I read this 'trick' after S.E./dry month went away.

Zyprexa is a great anti psychotic and its main side effect is weight gain. This has to be monitored so it doesn't get out of hand. The other common side effects are drowsiness (take it an hour or two before bed), dry mouth and difficulty swallowing. These usually improve over time but not always. It has other applications besides as an AP because it induces sleep. Here's a good honest link that gives pretty complete coverage on Zyprexa:

half-life of one day to two days. may never be fully out of your system. Eventualy it will be so little that it doesn't mater. Usualy 1-2 weeks depending on how much you took.

Thanks for the all replies.
To clarify, I took a single 2.5 mg pill Wednesday night before bed (around midnight).
It's Monday, and I'm feeling a bit better, but my mouth is still somewhat dry. I can't point to anything else except perhaps the higher dose of Lamictal (which I'd upped to 50 mg) -- but dry mouth has never been a symptom from this medication before.
I'm a bit scared now of the Zyprexa -- what with the dry mouth, odd tic-like buzziness between my eyebrows, and this weird feeling of wanting, needing to look down -- though not out of dizziness (it's very hard to explain, but it's like a heaviness in the back of my neck).
I am seeing my psychiatrist on Friday, and perhaps I'll see about weening down on the Celexa. I've been on it for about four years at 40 mg.

Hey AMD,
It seems like you are on a cocktail of sorts:
Which meds are you taking and what dosages? Also, what is your dx? I found zyprexa to be a godsend, although after 2 years it has outlived it's usefulness.
All the best,

I honestly don't know what's wrong with me. The doctors say I border between bipolar I and bipolar II, but I've never had some of the traditional bipolar I symptoms: flight of ideas, psychotic thoughts. I do obsess, and now I feel totally out of it. I am starting to wonder if I have something wrong with my brain beyond out-of-wack neurotransmitter levels. Like maybe I need an MRI. Today I feel sick to my stomach, the back of my head feels heavy, I just don't know.
I'm taking
Celexa 40 mg
Lamictal 50 mgEach once, in the morning.
This is the end of the thread.
