Hi folks
I'm considering taking an maoi for social anxiety-
so there's somethings I won't be able to eat- but
it's a sacrifice I've realised is worth making.I am little confused about Nardil- it's availability in Australia, whether the new formula is effective as the old and what differences there are to Parnate.
This page

Says in regards to Nardil in Australia:
Link Pharmaceutical's are importing Nardil and you need "Special Access" to purchase it. "special Access" means that your doctor has to order it for you and give it to you.
Is this true? Does it mean they give you the pack or they have to monitor every individual pill you take?
Anyone here taking Parnate or Nardil in Aust.?
Has there been much information on whether the new Nardil is as effective with SAD then the old one?
What is the difference with Parnate?
This page
http://www.anxietynetwork.com/spmed.html
says Parnate is better because of its
added noradrenergic and dopaminergic effects, lower side effects and quicker time to work,
is uplifting and motivating for people with social anxiety.I am going to see my general practioner this week and will ask them what is and isn't available here in Australia, but would love to hear from anyone who has any of the answers to my questions.
Damian.

> Is this true? Does it mean they give you the pack or they have to monitor every individual pill you take? No! Nothing like that! Actuall the thing you read is old. Link still are in control of Nardil but it is now back on the PBS- this means your doctor doesn't need to apply for any approval.
Keep in mind, the chemist you go to may have to get it from Link, as not many chemists keep in stock the MAOIs.
So order it as soon as you get the script.
It is around $3.80 if you have a healthcare card and around $100 if you don't. You get 100 pills in the bottle.>

I am in NSW. We can't get Klonopin because there has been a black market for it. Unless you have proven epilepsy you can't get it...to my knowledge.
But Xanax is a great benzo, that does so many great things!

While your tapering off it you can add Nardil. I have heard off many people combining it with Parnate...but better do some research first!

I've given up on shrinks!! I am actually studying to be one myself. I see a GP...he is very receptive and open to my ideas. I had NO problems AT ALL getting the nardil. You might have to scout around to find a GP who will prescribe Nardil, but boy is it worth it!
Just get educated on the diet restrictions (which I hardly notice!), and let the GP know you have done your research.
Nardil has been a blessing to me and so many others. At its best it causes a wonderful euphoria, at its worst it makes me feel 'just' happy! It rules!!!!!
It will be good to know another Aussie on Nardil!!Take Care,
Ace.

Hi Damian,
Before going to an MAOI, I would still suggest you try Clomipramine first. It would be no where near as sedating & have half as much of the anti-muscarinic side effects(Dry mouth, constipation, memory problems) & half as much Alpha-1 NE problems(Orthastatic Hypotension & fast heartbeat) & is alot more serotoninergic.
If you do go with an MAOI, Ace has the best advice coupled & would be able to tell you what Australian stuff you can & can't eat i.e: You could eat pizza from pizza hut, but pizza from a proper pizza shop can be very bad.
Parnate is mostly for Atypical depression. Worst side effects are insomnia, hyper- & hypotension.
Nardil is mostly for Anxious depression. Worst side effects are weight gain & hypotension.
Failure on one doesn't mean you shouldn't bother with the other.Cheers,
Panda.
