Hi, has anyone noticed a difference between Wellbutrin XL and the older versions? While I really like taking the XL only once a day, I find that it doesn't work as well for me. In particular, it doesn't have the same appetite-suppressing effect that the older versions had on me. I'm up to 450 mg now, and I'm back to the regular stuff-- 2 pills 3 x a day. It's a big pain to remember to take them, especially after the once a day pill. I thought about going back to the SR version, but the pills smell funny, like sulfur. Anyone have any suggestions?

Carebear I was just about to start a post about Wellbutrin SR working better than the XL...but I'll just piggy back off your post :)
I'm on day 4 of the SR and despite the side effects that I'm experiencing I'm finding more appetite suppressant, being to have clarity of mind, beginning to have that feeling of well being, more motivation to do somethings that I haven't done in months, just to list a few pluses for the SR. The XL kept me spacey, I'm still spacey, but I can see a light at the end of the tunnel.
My pdoc only prescribed the 200mg. of the SR once a day. Right now I'm taking it first thing in the morning with my breakfast. I'm thinking about taking it at night because it makes me sleepy.
I have poor sinuses so I really can not comment about the smell.

How does this make you sleepy?I thought the smell was because the pill expired or was exposed to too much heat. Perhaps it is the cellulose coating. I am not sure, but I threw out a bunch of pills that I could have used when I went back on the WB last year.
I like the XL, and I can't wait to get back on it next month. I had some insurance wobbles, so I had XL for a couple months then I could only get SR, but next month I believe I can get XL again. I hate timing the dose for wellbutrin SR, and I often takethe second dose right before bed which I was told would disrupt my sleep, but it never has. I might be missing on some activation though I suppose.
I have nver had original form Wellbutrin. Is it more stimulating? at its peak? Does it make you irritable?
I wonder what the difference between 150 SR and 150 XL is.

I have only been on the XL for a couple days but am finding it much better than the SR. I completely know what you mean about the SR and appetite suppression but it also gave me more mood swinging. I feel evenly up already. ALso after a year on the SR the appetite suppression part went away for me. I also had a really hard time taking it regularly enough. BUT I just paid $120 for 30 pills!!! Yikes. But after a few months on Lexapro I was desperate!

Day 5 on Wellbutrin SR. I still feel the jitters, but there is improvement. My mood is good. There is a breakthrough in that spacey feeling I was having on the XL. What exactly is the difference between the SR and the XL?
You wanted to know how Wellbutrin makes me sleepy? Well, I really don't know. All that I can say is that I'm usually sleepy an hour after taking Wellbutrin. I can take it first thing in the morning or late in the evening and the effect is the same. A good friend use to take 200mg. SR right before bed to help her sleep. We are all so unique.
