Another lithium question

Posted by McPac on March 4, 2004, at 21:19:12

I have been taking 600 mg's of lithium daily for a long while.
But just recently I began taking 600 mg's one day, then 900 mg's the next, then 600 the next day, then 900 the next, and so on....alternating like that. My question is: how long will it take before my new lithium level stabilizes?
Anybody?

Hi:
Did you ask this to your pdoc. to get a permission from him/her whether this method, 'alternative' is good for your condition?
Because, in my knowledge, you need to take the same dosage (most of cases, 900 mg. Lithium is a standard dosage)on daily basis with three times a day.
Also, what other med. you've been on? If there is/are other med. combo., it might show some different reaction if you're taking 600 mg. and 900 mg. Lithium alternatively.
In my suggestion, you may need to talk to your pdoc. before doing this, 'alternative' med. intake.
H.G.

Ya, I argree with Happygirl. Your not going to get a stable lithium level unless you take it the same way and same time every day. For example; I take 600mg at 10AM and 10PM every day.
