I've been but just assume it is bad PMS. Crying uncontrollably at office, home therapy, etc. Started Lamictal last week.

Had this crying thing big-time on Depakote, also some with Topamax. Stunning side effect. Not so with Lamictal. I have only -- only? -- had gastrointestinal bloating, discomfort and intolerance for any fat content in foods (leading to vomiting and diarrhea in extreme cases like accidentally eating a cream soup) and also a dull headache that hangs on for almost two weeks when I attempt to increase dosage. Which I don't do any more because I had to stop at 100 to manage the digestion thing. Good news though: even at that level, less rage, less depressive days.

I was anxious and emotional (crying, etc) while titrating up. I'm at 500 now, so there was a lot of titrating. Try to stick with it until you reach a therapeutic dose - hopefully, it will pass.

Good luck

Girl

500??!! I started with 25mg last week and am supposed to go up to 150 or 175 in 6 weeks. It's all I can do to get through a day alive, and by that I mean breathing. What I'm doing now is not living. Depression and binge eating is at an all time high, or should that be low? Called in sick to work today 'cause I have nothing that fits me and I can't stop crying even in public. Therapist asked me to ask my husband to hide the Vicodan, Percocet (we have a lot around from various surgeries, most minor, over the years)as I keep thinking about just taking a bunch of it and ending this crap once and for all. Tired of waiting for meds to work, not work, trying another, waiting, adding another, waiting, upping dosages, experiencing side effects, sleep too much, can't sleep, what's the use? To make the drug companies rich and provide the PDocs with some nice cruises???? Sorry to turn this into a rant but I no longer have any hope.

sjb, has your pdoc prescribed any xanax/klonopin for the anxiety? I know you are dealing with depression, but a benzo may help calm you down while you are waiting for results from the mood stabilizer. I just started Lamictal two days ago. I am also on 25 mg of Paxil CR and use Xanax about 2 to 3x a day. It really helps calm me down. I tend to get really agitated and then will end up crying if the anxiety really takes over.
If your doc won't give you a benzo, what about trying something homeopathic, like Calms Forte? Or, are you able to take some time off work?
I hope that you are feeling better soon.

Thank you for your advice and support. PDoc prescribed Lamictal only. Do the drugs you mention make you logey? I used work out pretty regulary and need to do so again, esp. due to the weight gain. I hesitate to ask for something that will make me more tired, esp. during the day. Right now I just have no energy or motivation but I'm going to try and get out for some exercise today.

Yes, I'd say that at times they do make me more tired, but to me, being tired is no big deal if my emotions are under control. I try and exercise a little bit every day and this helps to some degree. I'm surprised that you are taking only Lamictal. I've only heard of people combining it with an SSRI. I'm still just researching it though. I've been on Paxil for four months now and needed to supplement due to hypomania. So far so good.

Funny how we all react so differently. I find Lamictal very mild, and had only slight activation at the start. Now it's just a subtle mood stabilizer with no noticeable side effects at all. Mind you, I'm only at the 50-100 mg transition stage, so I'm pretty new to this one (and I take Klonopin along with it). But it seems quite benign to me, at least.

I want to say thank you for all your posts regarding lactimal. I am just starting and am rather nervous about it. I've been on lexapro now at 40 mg. day along with xanax 1 mg. as needed. But I find I'm at a quite dangerous point in my life and suicidal ideation is a real scary threat hanging over my head.
