side effects of seroquel

Posted by ginger C on February 24, 2004, at 16:23:17

Can anyone tell me what to expect from seroquel? I was just started on it a few weeks ago and so far I feel a little more lethargic and sleepy. I also feel a little stupid does this sound familiar to anyone?

How much are you taking? I am on Lexapro 20mg/day and take 25-50mg of Seroquel each night to help with my sleep. I find that the "effects" at that dosage are limited to sleepiness initially, and then when I wake up 8 hours later, I am slightly sedated, which wears off after a couple of hours and some coffee.

As for "side" effects, I haven't noticed any, really. I may feel a bit flat the next morning, but that's about it.

I know that Seroquel is precribed in much higher amounts for other applications (400mg) which is 8-16x what I take. At that level, I would suspect that the side effects are more noticeable.

It may be that I am attributing all the Seroquel side effects to my Lexapro, but it's hard to tell as started them at the same time.

I am on Seroquel for insomnia and it helps a little with anxiety. I have treatment-resistant depression and terrible insomnia so I am on 300mg of it at night. As far as side effects, expect some sedation and lethargy - as you already have. At higher dosages weight gain can become a problem. I think those are the main ones - as far as feeling "stupid" - that may be just your brain adjusting to the new med....?

Good Luck!

Sounds very familiar to me. I stopped it because it made me feel flat and down.....like I had wasted 24 hours after I took it! And all to get a little sleep!

Weird thing is that I took it a few months later and NOTHING!!!! no sedation, no help sleeping, nothing until I took like 400 mgs!

And yeah, it makes me eat.......a lot

Your experience is mine as well. I have been on Seroquel 75mg's for regulating my sleep as I am BPII. When I don't have a regular sleep cycle I began to become hypomanic.

I initally felt groggy the next morning for a few days but that wore off. I do feel some sleepiness the next morning but if I get right up and begin my morning routine I wake right up. I've been on this for two years and it has helped me in many ways. I did have an increased craving for food but that too went away.
