How about both? If you have panick attacks and major anxiety then I think it might call for this:
Klonopin daily as a maintenence medication
Xanax for breakthrough attacks/anxietyI believe there are a lot of people out there who currently use this combo effectively, but wait for more advice.

klonopin because of xanax short half life = more addicitivity. they are both nearly equal as far as power. however, id like to note that klonopin now has the klonopin wafers that disperse in your mouth immdiately, and reach your system very quickly. xanax's just aren't needed. expesially with the phobia in there. they wont last long enough.

From my experience, that is not true. If I have a panic attack and take Klonopin, 2 hours later it might start helping. With Xanax, the panic is gone in 20 minutes.

I do well with Klonopin on a daily basis and Xanax for occasional "breakthrough" anxiety.
I've developed no tolerance to Klonopin after almost 3 years of use, but quickly developed tolerance to Xanax and need more to achieve the same effect (even with only occasional use). This hasn't been a problem (I only take Xanax when I really need it), but for me, anyway, I wouldn't want to take Xanax on a regular basis.
Xanax is a great med though, and I agree that it can take care of severe anxiety very quickly (especially if dissolved under your tongue). I find that just having some with me is reassuring, even if I don't wind up using it, as is usually the case.

>Couldn't agree more with you regarding the Xanax. And the truth is it's much more potent (not in terms of duration but action) than Klonopin. I'll take the Xanax any old day over Klonopin, and I've tried both for extensive periods of time.
All this nonsense about the "addictive" potential of Xanax is really hysteria, IMHO. It's no more addictive than Klonopin in my experience. In over 4 years I've never raised my dosage of Xanax. I keep it about 2-3 mg max per day with no addictive tendencies, and that's even along with the fact that I have an addictive personality.
Bottom-line is that everyone's different, but my vote is for alprazolam!
