I have been on effexor xr for about 3 weeks at 75mg. I have seen no great improvement. How long does it normally take or maybe is it too low of a dose? Thanks

when i was on effexor my doc originally stepped me up to 75 took about two weeks then was on for about a week and half and didn't notice any help. the doc then upped me to 150 which is what he said most go to, but he made it sound like i should have see some improvement for sure within two weeks at the level of the 75.He said that if after two weeks on 150 and no diff. to get right in and we'd try something else. that's when he switched me to another. gradually of course.;)
must say though effexor just did not work for me, in fact it made me feel like i was wearing a condom over my sense of self..not real, foggy maybe. and i also started to cycle quite rapidly (everyother day) sometimes i even felt mixed. running on treadmill and bawling my eyes out at same time. Horrible waves of such intense feelings-very suicidal.
if you have any bad effects, immediately get a doc appt and get off. or go to another Gp or p-doc.just remember everyone reacts differently to drugs, and i've been told it typically takes about three times to get the meds right for an individual, so don't give up hope, keep an eye on how you feel-you know yourself better than anyone and talk openly with your doctor (are you seeing GP or psychiatrist?- i strongly recommend both)

I saw great benefits within the first week. I titrated at 37.5mg for one week, 75mg for two weeks, 75mg for two week, 250mg for twoo weeks. I ended up dropping back to 75mg for the last three months which has worked well until the last three weeks when I recently felt the effect wain and doubled the doseage to 150mg.
It has been a great med for me, despite the bad press it gets here on the boards...

>I had a mood lift in the first few days. I'd go to 150mg & give in another two weeks at the most & then try something else.
It's a great drug when it works but it's also one of the worst to give up. (No such thing as a free lunch)
Cheers,
Panda.

It took at least 4 weeks for 150 mg of Effexor XR to start helping me. After another month, I increased to 225 mg. I love Effexor!
I am currently taking 300 mg of Effexor XR daily and 0.5 mg of Klonopin 4 times a day.
This is a wonderful combination for my anxiety and depression. Go SLOWLY. It took me over 6 months to get to these levels.
Effexor can be a life savor, but the dosage can be critical.

I didn't notice any improvement until 150 mg and that was a very subtle increase in interest. At 187.5 I noticed definite improvement.
