I was recently clinically [whatever that means] depressed. I am now on effexor xr, wellbutrin xr,lithium xr and klonopin. The only one that I am sure works is the klonopin, because I cannot go to work if I do not take it. [I was diagnosed as bpd by someone else and this Dr. just found out this week.] Does this seem like too many meds? My hands shake and I have to print because it is so hard to write. terrics

Hi,
The shaking hands is due to the lithium most likely. It should go away but sometimes you can lower the dose. It might be ok since you are taking other meds too.
Good luck

Lithium does not mix well with AD's in my experience, it can cause increased irritability.
You may want to try the effexor and the klonpin, or the effexor, wellbutrin, and klonpin.
Or even perhaps the lithium and the klonpin.
How much effexor, and wellbutrin are you taking ??

They're used for different things. Effexor and Wellbutrin are both antidepressants (ADs). Lithium is a mood stabiliizer (used for bipolar disorder aka "manic depression"). Sometimes it's used to augment or boost ADs. Klonopin treats anxiety.
Usually you'll get started on one med and then your pdoc will change it or add others if it isn't working well.

Yes you might want to reduce the meds.
If it were me, eliminating the lithium would make a big difference. As well, lowering the doses of effexor and wellbutrin a bit might help.

The shakiness is from the Lithium. Let your doc know about it, s/he will let you know it's a normal side effect, but to let them know if it doesn't go away.
Warm bathes and some relaxtion time to yourself will help the shakes too.

I have never been on lithium, but I was on wellbutrin. I shook terribly. Wellbutrin is very activating. Perhaps, you are getting the shakes from both the wellbutrin and the lithum. Why the doc put you on wellbutrin? It is not helpful for a depressed and anxious person. I can see effexor and klonopin for anxious depression, but not the wellbutrin. Is it for sexual side effects?

Hello,What incident lead up to your current therapies? If you can provide more history, I may be able to help.Your condition prior to the meds is important to the relevance of the combination of your medications [since you are taking more than one]. More importantly, How do you feel now? with the exception of the trembling?
Wish you Well! Micro

Thank you all for your advice. Someone asked ,what led up to taking all these meds. Well I have been on antidepressants for many yrs. and klonopn for about 5 yrs. What led up to the rest....I had some kind of breakdown, not psychotic. I was very depressed and the pdoc could not help with meds right away. Also the anxiety was so bad I could not go into stores and I cried and was petrified whenever I left the house. I was crying continuously for up to 3 hrs. Dr. then added wellbutrin [which seems to take the sleepiness from the klonopin away] Through all this stuff I could not work, which has NEVER happened before. Pdoc's last resort was the lithium, and there i think we hit the jackpot. I have no idea if the fact that I had to change pdocs due to ins. helped make this mess. I am better. I wish, as I am sure most of you do, that someone would come up with an antideppressant that worked completely. [Also, If anyone is BPD could you let me know.] thanks again, Terrics

Each to his/her own. My current cocktail for MDD with an anxiety component is down to 7 meds daily, not counting Bs and fishoil. I'm on three ADs, including Welbutrin (400 mg), two stabilizers and an antianxiety. Plus 25mg of Traz for sleep. I am currently mostly content and stable, mostly. Don't lower anything without talking to your pdoc. Good luck.

to Jerseydevil, Guess I should not be complaining. 7 meds are alot. I am glad they are working for you. I would gladly add more if I would feel better. I am not so bad, but surely could be better. Still think of suicide alot. I won't lower any without talking to pdoc. thank you, terrics
