Considering I haven't been on any medication yet; I have 'self-medicated' with other peoples Prozac and Zoloft in the past for a week or two (Yes I know it wasn't the smartest idea, but I was in a bad state and wanted to see if it was worth getting a prescription for it); all they did was make me even more apathetic and numb.
I was reading a lot about NARIs and SNARIs, and even though I am not a doctor, they seem more likely to help motivate my emotions enough to care again and to increase my concentration and alertness, which has been steadily declining for as long as I can remember. I might be offered effexor, but from all the horror withdraw stories that I have heard, I am very wary of it, plus and sort of effect on my serotonin system seems to just make things worse and giving me bad anxiety. Wellbutrin seems like a possibility as well, but the one fear I have with that is the possibility of dopamine induced manic states.

Probably not hard to get Strattera prescribed or to get a sample. It's heavily marketed. It could be helpful at improving symptoms of depression and ADD. Look out for agitation/mood swings from the norepinephrine increase. I think the key with Strattera is to go slowly. *IMO* stay away from SSRIs except perhaps Prozac.
If your problems are with alertness and motivation, the good 'ole stimulants (sypathomimetics) like Adderall, Dexedrine, or Ritalin might be just fine. Adderall isn't very likely to induce manic states. Docs sometimes steer clear of them however, especially as first-line treatments for anything other than ADD or narcolepsy.
Try to stick to what is actually producing the most trouble for you when you talk to the doctor. And occasionally it is good to have someone (very close) go along with you.
Best wishes,

I agree, should be able to get it if you go see a pdoc, which you SHOULD do.
Additionally, taking these types of meds for a week does little but get you started on the initial side effects, which do go away in time. Most of these types of meds will take 6-8 weeks to get into your system and start to be effective. Do NOT judge their effectiveness by your 1 week trials.
Best of luck to you.~~~8|8
