anyone got experiences of lustral?

Posted by dottywild on January 20, 2004, at 6:53:25

Last September I went off work sick for three months, mainly with Anxiety and stress.

I spent a few months on Effexor with loads of side effects and no benefits, and finally cold turkeyed off my last daily 1/2 tablet over Xmas (scheduled it for while I was off work and spent a week with pretty severe dizziness). In addition to that I've since found myself terribly depressed for a couple of days at a time, for no apparent reason.

When I told my GP I was going to come off that he prescribed me with Half Inderal (beta blocker) for heart related symptoms of anxiety, but I've come off them too now as I know that's not what I need.

A colleague has told me she is taking Lustral and thinks it may have helped her anxiety but she spent three days unable to eat when she first went on it.

I'm seeing my GP again this week and I'm wondering what to try next. He's a bit crap so I tend to tell him what I want! Has anyone else got experience of Lustral? Did you find it beneficial? Did you exerience lots of side effects? What was your withdrawal like? Can you recommend anything else? I am hoping to avoid anything that is too addictive because I know I'm quite weak willed!

Thanks x

I've just read elsewhere that it's chemical name is something like Sertraline, and it also has other 'brand names' such as Zoloft. Can anyone confirm this?

<:-)

Yes. zoloft is the trade name and sertraline is the generic or chemical name. There is no generic currently available for Zoloft. It is an ssri similar to prozac with the exception of a shorter half-life. Did this help. Regards. Micro

For me it was the worst of them all, couldn,t walk the next day!!
You are obviously from the uk so possibly citalopram, ask your doc for the liquid version and start at 1 drop a day working upto the standard 8 over 2-3 weeks.
Yes gps are generally crap but if he will give you what you suggest don't be too hard on him- there are much more unhelpful ones around!
