Lamictil and appetite

Posted by girl1969 on December 30, 2003, at 8:04:53

I am currently taking 400 mg of Lamictal and 40 mg of Geodon, plus 80 mg of Celexa (which I've been on for 2 years).

I am struggling to eat these days. This has coincided with starting the lamictil. Anyone have a similar experience?

hi,

i am currently up to 175mg of lamictal (moving up still) with zoloft, trazodone, and a little bit of klonopin. i found that in general zoloft (and before it, celexa) dampened my appetite, but it is worse than ever lately. i hadn't thought it could be the lamictal. i actually am starting to dread mealtimes, especially breakfast, b/c there is just nothing i want anymore! this is bad for me, b/c i am pretty thin and have lost weight and want to gain some back. it's proving quite impossible so far.
so perhaps lamictal can have this effect, as it often boosts ssri power? it also causes more glutamate to be released, i have read, and i have no idea if that can have any effects on appetite.
good luck, and let me know if you find any good ideas to fix this! =)

Hi Liz,

I am experiencing the very same thing. I dread lunch and dinner! Everything seems repulsive to me. I gained a lot of weight on Zyprexa, so this is not entirely unwelcome for me, but I do have to eat to stay healthy.

The lamictil is working wonders otherwise, so I hope to stay on.

Keep me posted and best of luck!

Hello,
I have been taking lamictal for over 3 months, currently on 300mg, along with prozac and remeron and I have gained at least 15 lbs. I am male so perhaps it has the opposite effect on females. I know the remeron, for sure, gives me a big appetite and prozac probably also. I am trying to get off remeron but when I do try, my depression returns. I am caught between a rock and a hard place. Hopefully, in the future I can get by with lamictal only.
