Memantine??

Posted by Laree on December 27, 2003, at 0:58:03

Hi, I looked up something on memantine online (re: stimulant poop-outs, etc.) and is it available in the U.S. yet? And if not, are there any other NDMA antagonists that they use in the U.S.? If anyone has a clue, please help me out! thanks!

I know of at one NMDA antagonist, called Dextromethorphan, also called DXM. It's one of the active ingredients in many cough syrups.

I've investigated this particular claim -- that NMDA antagonists can prevent amphetamine tolerance -- and the only single source of information I could find was from some guy named Andrew B. who made this claim on this board some time ago. To the best of my knowledge, nobody on this board has taken Memantine or the other one, acamprostate, and reported that it reduced or eliminated stimulant poop-out. This could just be a bogus claim.

Also, I've been taking 60mg of DXM with my 60mg of Adderall for about two weeks, and I haven't observed any noticable reduction in my tolerance level.

The only credible advice I've heard is that Magnesium, Ephedra, and L-Tyrosine may enhance the effect of stimulant medication.

Nonetheless, when Memantine becomes available next month I'll try it out just for curiosity's sake.

I see from the manufacturer's website that memantine is expected to be available next month.

Amantadine (Symmetrel) is closely related to memantine and is supposed to be an uncompetitive NMDA receptor antagonist.
