From Nardil to Parnate ?

Posted by RT on December 25, 2003, at 22:16:35

Is it ok to switch from nardil to parnate without a washout period. Nardil has been a good med but finding it hard to deal with some of the side effects especially anorgasmia. Hoping parnate will be as good without troublesome side effects

No! You'll need a week or two, I don't remember exactly how much. A qualified pdoc will help you with this. I know it's awful to have to wait, but you can't rush these things. . .

I'm sure you will encounter people who report successfully making the switch without a washout period, but I wouldn't recommend it. It is hard to predict who will be lucky and who will suffer a massive stroke. I don't think it is worth the gamble. The rule of thumb is to allow 2 weeks between your last dose of one and the first dose of the other. Nardil > Parnate is probably more dangerous than Parnate > Nardil because it seems to take longer for MAO activity to recover after Nardil.

I remember when Nardil was hard to get for a while and some users switched to Parnate. I seem to remember one or two of them didn't use any washout period. Like Scott said, it's not really worth the risk. Although I didn't search for it, I do recall someone posting quite a while age that they suffered serious injury when doing this without a washout period. Also, I know there has been at least one thread with some knowledgable people posting on this subject.

I went from Nardil 90mg one day to 10mg Parnate the next and then back to 90mg Nardil the next day!!!

Also, I had only a 40 hour washout from Parnate to Nardil once.

No probs at all either time.

But I'm not saying do it- see your doc, if u do it same day, make sure he is close by...

Ace.
