I see my doctor in the morning for medication reevaluation and refill of this Effexor XR he's had me on for three months. I was on Zoloft prior to that for several years and it seems as though it just stopped working, so he tried me on Lexapro...which made me tired...then this. The brain shivers ARE HORRIBLE and I find I get them even if I'm a couple hours late taking it in the day because my body starts withdrawing THAT QUICK. Whats really concerned me the past couple of days, is that I've taken the medicine ON SCHEDULE and I'm experiencing it. I'm really concerned...I really feel as though I'd have to be hospitalized if he took me off of it because of the severe withdrawal symptoms it causes. Being a single mom of two...I can't handle feeling that way. Any feedback, experience or advice would be GREATLY APPRECIATED. Thanks bunches~

I mean to add/describe brain shivers: "you turn your head (or your whole body -- this happens to me if i whirl around too quickly as i'm taking the stairs. what. doesn't everyone whirl on the stairs...?), but your brain *stays put* for a micro second, then tries to catch up but only in a stuttering, stopstart motion, accompanied by a staccato 'zzt zzt zzt' with each stop. the 'zzt' you can feel in your head, an electric sort of vertigo, and it often reverberates in your hands and fingers. some folks feel it in their toes; i haven't yet."
I got that PERFECT description from another website where somebody described what it felt like...I couldnt of said it better myself.

It could be that you can't tolerate the Effexor XR? I have been on it & had to be hospitalized soon afterwards because I had a very negative reaction to it, so I went through withdrawal there & it was not, overall, a bad experience. I came out feeling a lot better in just a few days. I have been on Zoloft in the past too, and have recently been put on a combo of Lexapro (been on it before too) and Wellbutrin, and it's been a very good regime for me so far! Maybe your pdoc can direct you to an antidepressant that agrees with your system better? I would definitely discuss it with him/her.

Thank you so much for your quick response. Do you mind me asking exactly what you felt like when withdrawing...it must of been bad to of been hospitalized. I thought maybe my system was having a reaction too but this is the third month I'm on it...would it take that long for my body to respond this way? Thx again...

Well, maybe I could chime in here. I've been on Effexor for two months and it seems to be getting gradually worse in very tiny increments. Similar problems. I'm going to talk to my pdoc about stopping the Effexor. Your pdoc should be able to titirate down the effexor and titirate up a different AD at the same time. I've heard that doing that helps with the withdrawals and may help to keep your mood stable durng the transition.
