Posted by MelD on December 14, 2003, at 19:30:28

Ok,i posted this before, but its driving me crazy that i have this salty taste on my lips all the time and sometimes its so strong i get a little nauseated, as if i had swallowed sea water. It isnt sweat, because im not perspiring abnormally or anything like that. Im on 60mg Parnate and 50mg Topamax daily. Any ideas? Anyone? Thanks, Mel

Hi Mel,
I, too, get the occasional "salty lips" sensation, and assumed it was from my Topamax, which I also take (200mgs). I'm bad about not drinking enough water...I drink tons of it, but need to drink more, cuz I still have dry lips, eyes, hair, etc. Do your lips taste this way all the time? Mine only do this occasionally....

>Thanks for the reply Sooshi, i was beginning to think i was the only one. The salty lips are almost all the time and i also drink water all day. I have to carry it with me or i get desperately thirsty. Must be the Topamax, but i wonder why? BTW, no problem here with skin and hair being dry, but my nails are really weak and tear easily. Small stuff in exchange for feeling well, but still makes me curious. Thanks again, Mel

I had strange tasts when I was on Parnate. Some antidepressants can cause slight perceptual disorders, like taste. May or may not go away.

Good Luck

I too get salty lips occasionally. Never really associated it with anything because it is not often but it must be the Topamax! i drink a LOT of water but occasionally slip back and don't drink as much...I guess that is when it happens....

take parnate too! somethings don't taste the same to me but i wouldn't say its salty. i'm a diet coke aholic for the caffiene and i don't even really like the way it tastes on parnate.

hope you figure it out,
wsj

I think you must have hit it, Maggie. I drink a lot of water, but if im running around or get busy at work, i might go too long thirsty. Ill start paying more attention to this! Thanks, Melodie
