Any GOOD results from Effexor?

Posted by brussell on December 14, 2003, at 14:45:29

Hello,

I've been absolutely horrified by the lurid stories of Effexor withdrawal that I've read on this board.

I tried Effexor for about a week, but quit because it made me feel very, very strange and emotionally numb. Fortunately I didn't have any withdrawal problems.

I'd be interested in hearing from people who had good results from this drug, and what the normal side-effects and benefits seem to be.

Thanks.

I take Effexor XR 150mg along with lithium everyday, and it works very well for me. It doesn't make me feel any particular way---it just helps me feel normal again (like I remember feeling before I had bipolar). The only side effect I have is difficulty reaching orgasm. And I have gone off effexor before (twice, actually) and suffered no withdrawal syndrome at all.

Hi, as regards effexor XR: I've been on it for over three years and have not experienced any side effects enough to warrant discontinuing the drug. I did have some withdrawl discomfort when missing the dose for three days when I ran out of pills and did not get them refilled promptly. I felt like I had the flu; the pharmacist told me it was from not taking the effexor for three days.

The drug has been overall helpful to me. Have been on 225mg, and am on 300mg now and have been for several months. When the dose increased to 300mg, I did experience some sexual side effects, but they have gone away since.

Hope this helps.

I've been on Effexor XR for 3 years and it has been the only AD that has had any staying power. It has kept me out of the "hell hole", increased my energy tenfold, and hasn't pooped out like all the others. However, if you miss a dose, it does give you the willies...If you're good at taking your meds on time every day, you won't need to worry about this side effect. I've never had to come off of it, but I imagine it's pretty gnarly, but I'll deal with that when/if the time comes.

Like any AD, you've got to get through the first few days of strange side effects...give it another try if you feel up to it.

Hi; I'm into my tenth week of Effexor therapy and I am quite pleased with the results. My mind has stopped racing, I have stopped snapping at people, i no longer dwell on unpleasant thoughts for hours at a time. I'm actually happy for the first time in I don't know how long. The sexual side effects associated with this medication stopped being a problem about two weeks ago. the only side effect I have is a cold sweat from time to time. This is usually made worse by people asking "why are you sweating". Having said that, I am happy with the progress I am making. The stories you have read horrified me too. But I am hoping for the best. Good luck.
