Generic bupropion vs. Wellbutrin SR

Posted by sac on November 12, 2003, at 12:59:19

I have been on Wellbutrin SR for four months, however I cannot get past 50 mgs. without having alot of anxiety. I used to be on the generic bupropion and I did not have any anxiety, just a little agitation in the beginning and definately more energy which was a plus. I even got up to 150mgs. on that. I guess most people are on the Wellbutrin SR now and that is why my doctor switched it. Is there anyone out there who has experience with this and perhaps did better on the generic? I'm considering switching back to the generic. BTW, I'm bipolar II and also on Prozac, Depakote and Lamictal. Thanks for any info/suggestions, etc.

There's a generic version? Are you sure you don't mean the non-time-released version? If there's a generic, I'd like to know.

Yes, I started on the generic bupropion at 75 mgs. It's about 1/3 the cost of brand name wellbutrin. It is an immediate release and there is still an immediate release wellbutrin along with the sustained release and the newer XL version. I don't know what experience you've had with Wellbutrin but for me the bupropion and the Wellbutrin SR feel like two totally different medications.
