does anyone know if pain medication has an effect on a bipolar's mood.... like will it bring on mania?

In high enough doses, I would think opiates would calm mania - but I may be dead wrong.

If anyone ever thought it safe to call someone BP, i suppose that would be me.
I have at one time in my life been on pain meds for slightly longer than a year. My daily doses never exceeded 10mg 2x day
I felt more even keeled and peaceful during the whole year

I've never noticed any mania brought on by pain pills, and I was addicted to them for quite some time. Hope that's not the case for you (not to say it is or anything).. bye bye. Karen
