I am really struggling right now, so I need to post again to find an opinion. I had a depression come out of know where which also coincided with not being able to fall asleep and a ringing in my ears that won't stop.
Effexor worked once for me in the past when the same thing happened (except I didn't have the ringing in the ears that coincided with the onset)
I have tried Effexor again along with Elavil and they both are have given me many similar, terrible side effects. Mostly they are both affecting my ears by making the ringing louder, making my ears feel full of pressure, popping in my ear and giving me ear aches feeling as though they are infected. When I stop them, it goes away, but my problems remain with no sleep and anxiety.
The medications also seem to be having an extreme opposite affect of making the anxiety and depression 100x's worse, causing nightmares, my body is twitching and I am having bad thoughts. This also seises when I stop taking them.
I feel I am in a bad prediciment now, because I believe in these meds (Effexor helped majorly before) but now they are having terrible opposite effects on me making everything worse.
Is there a med that doesn't effect ears/ear pressure, but affects seretonin levels?
I am scared to death right now. I could deal with feelings of depression and anxiety and stay off the meds, but the thing is my sleep will just not trigger for the life of me and I am currently relying on Lorazapam to fall asleep.
Any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi John,
I don't really know about your ears, I have had similar experiences but much milder ringing than you are describing.
I have had really bad experiences with ssri's, though. When I was on Paxil, Prozac etc. I felt extremely more paranoid and neurotic, and had extreme anxiety. It was a nightmare.
I have found that I cannot take those unless I have some sort of mood stabilizer. I think I am BP11, but not positive. All I know is that I react to those drugs like a bi-polar person does, and mood stabilizers are a must.
Sorry I can't be more help with your ears. Sometimes when I get the ringing I hold my breath and try to get more oxygen to my brain, and strangely that seems to help some.

Zoloft does not cause the ringing that Effexor and Lexapro caused for me.

Thanks for the help everyone. It seems most of the anti-d's are listed on that list, so that worries me. I might have to give Zoloft a try though
