I have noticed that my circulaton is getting worse and worse. Is this from stimuants? Also, I have noticed more spiderveins around my nose and legs. Just curious if anyone else is having the same problem.

Stims can certainly affect circulation, especially adderall.
Check your fingernail pads. Are they nice and pink, or grey/bluish? Pink is a good sign. This is not a difinitive sign, but pink pads do indicate there's oxygenated blood reading your peripheral extremities.

Being on Adderall really effected my heart. Even laying still on a bed a girl noticed that she could feel my heart pumping through just about any part of the body she touched especailly my legs and stomic (And since the adderall took away my sex drive this was not a sexual effect). Even though I didn't know it at the time taking adderall and working out was a horrible idea. The adderall would raise my heart rate to dangerous levels and I would have to stop often and wait till it came back down. I thought I was just out of shape until a couple weeks went by.

> BlondegirlA nutritional supplement that has been said to help both with ADD and varicose veins (a tendency for co-morbidity there, rather than a meds side effect?) are the oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPCs) which can be obtained from extracts of pine bark or grape seed.

http://www.brainplace.com/bp/supplements/default.asp
If you decide to try it, shop around and compare price, taking into account the number of pills in the bottle, the amount of extract in each pill, and the recommended dose of that extract given your body weight. Some brands of the trademarked Pycnogenol are priced into rip-off territory.
This is the brand I am using now...
http://www.naturesway.com/products_catalog/database/index.asp?details_id=-981460679Retailed for $31.99, 90 x 75 mg. $0.0047/mg
Before that I was taking Trader Darwin's Pycnogenol from Trader Joe's. That was the least expensive Pycnogenol I have found so far.
Retailed for $9.99 (IIRC), 50 x 25 mg. $0.0080/mg
LOL, *blush*, doing the math I find the TD's Pycnogenol was cheaper on a day to day basis as my recommended dosage was lower for Pycnogenol OPCs (100 mg) than for the grape seed OPCs (225 mg). Oh well, I will use up my Nature's Way before going back. :-)

Thanks for the info zenclearer, I was noticing this morning that on my left hand the finger pads were not pink. Maybe I will have to go back to dextrostat with my dexedrine sr. I will also have to up my vitamin C and maybe get back on ginko.

Thank for the info. I have noticed it doesn't take anything to get my heart rate up these days and my heart will pound at night too.
What are you taking now?

Thanks for the info, DSCH. I am going to look into the OPCs.
I too have noticed *a lot* more broken capillaries as of late, I am on Ritalin 20mg bid.
Interestingly, I noticed a sudden and substantial increase about two months ago, over a two week period. I actually had so many capillaries break in my legs over those two weeks, and so much bruising all over that I went to the doc. All my bloodwork was perfect. I also went to my pdoc around that time to request different meds because my ADD symptoms and depression were taking a turn for the worse. I did not make a connection at the time (and perhaps there is no connection) but thanks for posting this question, because it is definitely food for thought!

Thanks, DSCH, from me, too. I also have noticed broken veins appearing around my nose and on my legs, never had them before, and never would have guessed the connection.
I'll try the grape seed extract.

I am also going to up my vitamin C. It helps with vein fragility. I take the buffered C so it won't interfer with my medication. If you take regular vitamin c, take it before bed or when your medication has worn off.

Hi DSCH & all~ sorry, haven't been on PB for a few days...
My experience with lower circulation and spiderveins hasn't been like blondgirl's, sorry to say- or if it has, i attributed it differently.
I would be hard pressed to associate my past spidervein appearances with poor circulation or Adderall only, because of a hereditary factor in my case, but the remedies that i would recommend might still apply.I'd asssumed that my circulation might've been lowered because my activity had changed. The Adderall afforded me an ablility to sit still for longer periods of time, or being able to organize movement effectiveness into less energy expenditures. Without my usual vulnerability to distractions, my physical activity is definately changed to a less active state for longer periods of time. Poor circulation remedy for me, is remembering to engage in activity or stretches while in an Adderall-prone state.
Spider Veins is a hereditary factor on the maternal side of my family, making their first appearances near age 30. No one in my family (myself included) have ever had them facially - only around ankles or thighs. HOWEVER, when i noticed my first ones (ankles) i did address them successfully with Pycnogenol. I also take a Vit.E suppliment and Omega 3,6,9 oil, that is said to prevent further appearances. Am in the habit of using GrapeSeed Oil alternately with FlaxSeed Oil (cold processed, etc.) whenever i use oil (unheated)for salads, pasta, etc. The only thing that i can vouch for 'disappearing' the little squiggles is the Pycnogenol.
Oh yes- don't forget about regularly taking niacine (or niacinamide) for capillaries/circulation health... also check that you are not constipated or dried out from the Adderall. These are also possible causes of spiderveins.
Hope any of this is helpful,
Escher

Sorry to make things more complicated, but I'd like follow-ups regarding alternative treatments to be redirected to Psycho-Babble Alternative, thanks.

Right now I'm supposed to be taking 30mg Adderall 3xDay. But I find it has been interferring with my social agenda so I'm trying to limit my adderall intake to nessesity only.

I don't know about lung capacity. Usually I can tell if my lungs aren't getting enough oxygen because they burn when I work out. The feeling I get when working out is more of tempture rising along with massive sweating. I tipically take breaks alot and drink tons of water.

Not so much sex drive but more to that it gives me impotence often. I require more stimulation then I usually would. I stop taking adderall for a week and the desensatization feeling went away.

curiosly, somebody was telling me that based on where the sweating occurred, it was anaerobic exhaustiopn and not aerobic, hmmm
