Anyone have atypical depression?

Posted by Searchlight on October 3, 2003, at 11:25:13

I have had atypical depression pretty badly on and off (mostly on) for decades (I am 37 and female). Prozac is the only one who has given some relief- for about 10 years. Now I am going to try MAOIs finally (after years of trying to stay away and taking everything else in the book). Anyone else out there battled this demon (AD) and gotten little help from doctors who do not seem to have the knowledge to diagnose this properly and with relavant info to our specific set of symptoms? Also I do NOT think that those of us with most or all of the symptoms of AD are in the majority of those diagnosed with depression, and I thoroughly resent it when AD is called "more typical than you think". It is like the psychiatric community downplays our illness.

I thought this site I found on yahoo might be of interest to you...especially the part on the bottom about drugs available in Canada and how a doctor can get them for you with some kind of "compassionate care" rx.

Good luck.
