Xyrem is so much better than a stim!

Posted by utopizen on September 29, 2003, at 15:00:53

Hey, I'm on like week 2 of Xyrem now, and I have to say, it's incredible. It's helped me to virtually guarantee that I sleep at the same precise time each night (within a 60 second window) and consolidated my sleep so I sleep more effieciently than I ever have in my life. I wake up after 6 hours, 7 hours, I feel like I slept for 18 hours, and I don't even know what that would feel like! =)

Best part: I got to reduce my stim dosing of Desoxyn, which was annoying me. It's the least annoying stim side-effect wise, but it's still a stim. There's a huge difference from feeling forced awake to feeling refreshed and healthy from a good rest. I fell incredible.

Just don't take it without a prescription, or exceed the nightly prescribed dose, or take it during the daytime (so you don't kill people, or develop tardive dyskinsia and withdrawl).

Withdrawl is proven not to exist within people who follow the prescribed dose nightly. Like alcohol, withdrawl only occurs when you take it routinely throughout the day. Never take it during the day.

Not Xyrem as prescribed, but it is GHB, which will cause TD when abused (taken during the day)

How di dyou get prescribed this medication? I've beenon every sleep med and NONE have given me restful, restorative sleep. I basically need a stim. during the day to keep me awake and heavy sleeping meds at night to get me to sleep. THe best sleep I've ever had was on Nembutal - but docs get worried about prescribing it (I don't know why?). Anyway, I'd like to know how to discuss this med with my doc - could you please share your experiences with talking with your doc about this?

Thanks!!!
Jerry

My best advice, go to xyrem.com and call the number, they can send you info you can give your doctor, and have your doc call their pharmacist.

Nembutal? I would assume that would interrupt your sleep cycle, causing you to feel less refreshed... Ambien is the only med that doesn't interrupt the sleep cycle, but it also is weak at getting you to sleep and staying in your bloodstream long enough.

I've spent 6 months seeing doctors, neurologists, pulmonary specialist, psychiatrists, all working together to get me treated. I'm about to try CPAP, you may want to look at that, to help my treatment.

You need lots of documentation, tests, before docs are comfortable giving you drugs like Xyrem or Nembutal. MSLTs, PSGs, sleep-deprived EEGs, titration studies, I've had four. No one questions you need treatment when the results come positive from these tests.
