I am a 55 yr old taking 150mg Zoloft daily for anxiety and depression. I am also going thru menopause. I am experiencing MASSIVE AND IRRITATING itching and hives continually. I have tried Benadryl pills and Hydrocortisone 1% cremes with no relief. I scratch until it burns. I only recently upgraded to 150mg from 100mg. I am wondering if there is someone who has experienced this and may have found some relief somehow? Other than that, the only other side effect I've had is twitching (feet) and fast talking. I've actually been pretty lucky from what I hear.

Yes I originally got this from celexa until I discovered that a daily bath in aveeno bath oil and kigelia africana, along with generous use of both topical creams got rid of it after a week or two.
Hope this helpsGlenn

A daily bath in oils and creams sounds good, but I work all day and I'm exhausted at night...another side effect I've been blessed with. I'm not so sure the Zoloft is working that good. I've been on it over a yar now and I feel like I'm riding an edge. I will be starting med control with a psy hospital (outpatient, not in) in two weeks so maybe I will get more info and may be even get my meds changed. Who knows...they have a better insight into all the different meds.

Hi,
I take celexa and have a similar problem with itching. The drug used to give me boils and other problems as well. I think the itching may be partly due to dry skin, so perhaps some kind of oily skin lotion would help?
Have you done regular blood tests while on the drug? Perhaps it would be a good idea to make sure that the zoloft didn't cause some other problem, with itching as its result.

Thanks-I have tried all kinds of lotions. It's hard when you work to do these things. My skin is dry, but it's always been dry. I only acquired the itching since I started on Zoloft.
No, I haven't had specific blood tests regarding Zoloft. I've recently had diabetes, liver, and regular basic blood tests just within the last month. Supposedly, everything was OK except I do have the onset of diabetes which is under control now.
I talked to a therapist today and she is going to have a doctor look at me and possibly change my meds when I go to my appointment in two weeks. It will be the first time that I will be seeing someone who deals directly with the depression/anxiety problems. I'm hoping they'll know more than my regular doc. I will let you know. Thanks again for the info.
