You could give some Neurontin a try. It doesn't work for MANIA, it is true, but it CAN work rather well for anxiety/agitation/sleep issues which fuel depression. Many folks also report it reducing irritability. It doesn't have a big reputation for being porkogenic either.

Don't be scared of Topamax. You never know how your body will react to it until you try it. If you titrate up the dose slowly any side effects should be minor and if bothersome they go away quickly. Also, as you go up the dose the side effects go away after a few days anyway as your body gets used to the drug. I have not had any problems with it except for sporadic tingling hands and feet in the evening which is only mildly bothersome. No mental fog, no verbal problems, no sleepiness at 150 mg.

I vote for Lamictal too. Takes a while, but you sound like a good fit for it.

hi Rainee, I have seen some scary posts also about Topamax-but I've been on it for 2 months and it has been a miracle for me. If you want to know anything please feel free to ask me.
Please remember, all meds work differently on everyone and everyone has different experiences. All you can do is give the meds a fair shot. I know it's hard but it's the only way to go. I fought so many times. I got scared when I read some of the side effects of these meds. Topamax is one of the few meds I gave a fair chance and it is working for me.

Good luck

gal

toodlebug, I'm so glad to see you post this. I have been on Topamax for 2 months now and I so agree with what you state here. The minimal side effects that I did get have virtually gone away and the worst-more like funny side effect IS the tingling in my feet-I have to stomp my foot on the ground while shouting "wake up wake up".
It has helped me calm down, no mental fog, no zombie feeling, and I can actually sit still!

thanks for a great post!

Is it Mitch or Ritch? Whichever the case, I very much appreciate the advice you give out here. I've gone through the last couple of years of posts and found yours to be the most informative and closest to my experiences. I haven't been trying the meds as long as you but I've experimented for about 10 years myself. I seem to have similar responses to different drugs as yourself. Your experiences with buspar and wellbutrin we're dead on. You seem to talk a lot about Neurontin and that's one of the drugs I've never tried. I've stuck with Trileptal cause of all the mood stabilizers that's the one that's had the least amount of side effects for me. I'm still experimenting with different combinations but the best I've come across so far has been Trileptal, celexa, and desipramine. I seem to have a ADHD/bipolar kind of depresion/anxiety problem. There seems to be some chronic fatigue syndrome thrown in the mix. It's hard to pinpoint exactly what's wrong with me but the drugs do make a dramatic difference. Well, I could go on and on but I just wanted to establish a contact with you since we seem to have a similar type illness and similar type responses to medications. Maybe we'll be able to help eachother out. I'm wondering how the imipramine worked for you compared to desipramine and what dosage and dosing schedule you use for Neurontin. Sorry for going on so much. I really look forward to hearing back from you. Thanks for your help.

Mike
