I was always somewhat sexually inhibited. I never really found a use for sex. Not so much lack of pleasure, I just couldn't see the point. Now that I am on Celexa, I have lost ALL interest in sex. I consider myself a eunich. I am depressed in no way at all. I see sex as repulsive, primitive, and a waste of time.
I am very friendly with all people.
Very friendly when there is no posiblity of
sex, not inhibited at all cause I have nothing
to loose.I still feel that I am considerably tweeked in the brain, and all my docs see this as a real problem and cause for concern.
What does this all mean. Are there any long term reprecussions to this ?????

But I personally think a sex life is quite important to one's well-being. As humans, we NEED sex. Obviousaly you don't feel that need... but I bet one day you'll "get it".

>A high value is placed on it yes but actually the
sex drive like anything else in human behavior is
regulated by the brain and our chemicals etc.
Therefore it can be affected by drugs but also people are just different in their own body
chemistry and they may have a high sex drive or they may have a low one or none. Often people
with low sex drive may enjoy close contact with someone
but not necessarily in a sexual way.
It is up to that individual to decide what
they value and what they want in thier heart
nevermind the brain!
It has been reported that women taking testoserone for certain types of therapy reported
a much higher interest and thinking about
sex then they had before. Often these women
were taking higher doses of testoserone than
the average male had in them as an equivalent measure.
I think there was a report on this on This American Life on NPR and the women
described these experiences. They began
to realize why men are men, why they
act and think the way they do.In conclusion to linkadge let me say that I think you need to find the therapy/meds that work for you and just let yourself be comfortable with however you are with sex and don't worry about
it unless you want to.J

Sounds like a very cool way to be. Be who you want to be, as long as you're healthy and happy.

I'm just wondering if my brain will atrophy or something from the lack of sexual stimulation.
I'm only 20 yrs old and have been taking Celexa since 18. I do well in school I just sometimes feel like it's something I'm misssing, though I don't really feel deprived.
There was a study done that showed that eunichs lived on average 18 yrs longer than regular individuals, maybe some of that will cary through to me.

Oh, okay. Yeah that's understandable.
The only thing i would be worried about is, if enough time went by with little or no sexual arousal or whatever, maybe certain areas of the brain associated with sexual arousal/responsiveness/wtvr. would eventually deteriorate or something. But probably not even. And even if so, if you never care it's probably no big deal. But i doubt it anyway. Aside from that i seriously doubt any kind of other or generalized brain degradation would occur.> I'm only 20 yrs old and have been taking Celexa since 18. > LinkadgeThat's hilarious. Crazy though-- 18 years. Probably from less stress. No, i really wonder why. Thats actually really interesting, if valid.

I have a female friend who was in a bad marriage and didn't have sex of any kind (not even by herself) for almost 10 years. During that time she had ZERO interest in it (but could still crack a blindingly funny dirty joke!).
Then she met someone new on the internet and has had *no* problem with sex - either solo or in parallel - since renewing her interest.
Might be different for guys.... but not too different, I'd think. Blokes have a whole set of different neuroses based on fears that it'll "drop off" or something if it doesn't get used! But they're just neuroses, arising from the genetic obsession with virility and manhood that all males seem to have.... *grin*
Not to compare you with animals, but there are many many instances of males of various species who never get to "use it" in any way during most of their lives, but are still willing and capable of siring offspring at an advanced age.... Unlike us females of course, who have the biological clock ticking away in our ears!
Back to my original point though - it's a male thing, thinking that lack of sex leads to some kind of irreparable damage. There are far too many women "going without" for a myriad of reasons in this world, to agree with you there, I think!
Just my musings....

Whenever I see a babe, I see the point!
But, these ssri drugs CERTAINLY can kill the desire and the ability to drive the point home, lol.

It's true about the eunichs. 18 years longer on average. Probably cause they tend to eat less, and have less hormones. Probably less anger too which is bad for the heart.

Hahhah, good point.
