I've been taking Lexapro for a few weeks and trying to be patient by giving it more time. I was thinking about trying Effexor XR because it claims to help with a little "motivatation" which I seem to be lacking from Lexapro. Right now with Lexapro 10mg I'm feeling a little spacey and not wanting to do much of anything. Any input???

I recently made the switch from 20mg/day of Lexapro to 150mg/day Effexor xr. As yet--after approx.3 weeks, I still haven't noticed an increase in my 'motivation'.

I don't know if this will help you or not, but I am on Celexa and was having a problem with apathy and lack of motivation. I started taking claritin for a rash, I had never taken an anti-histamine before, well......., since taking it I became a new person. It helped my stomach, but has since stopped, but that is a whole other story. As for energy, it has been a small miracle, and is still working. Give it a try, it took about 3 to 4 days to kick in. Hopefully I'm not poisoning myself.
good luck.

Can I ask why you both switched from Lexapro to another drug? I was on Lex, 10 mg for two weeks, anxiety kicked in, upped it to 20 mg for almost 3 weeks and the panic/anxiety didn't subside. I switched back to Zoloft and am beginning to feel better. I was on Zoloft before and did pretty good and heard about Lex, so I switched. Wish I didn't. It was not for me. Good luck!

>I switched from Lexapro because it wasn't working. 7 years ago I was on zoloft for about a year or a little more. It helped me out of my depression and I went off of it. I wish now that I'd kept taking it, but that's life. When I tried zoloft again late last year it didn't work so I went to Lexapro. And now I'm trying Effexor.
As for side effects from Lexapro vs Effexor I can't really say. I'm more concerned that the drug works than I am about side effects at this point. I was somewhat tired from the lexapro and haven't had much motivation, but I can't say whether this is the drug or the depression. I noticed some teeth clenching when I first started lexapro and I think there's some now with Effexor too.
I've only been on Effexor not quite 3 weeks now, so I'm going to stick it out and hope that it works.

I guess you didn't read my post, I didn't say I switched I said I was considering switching if after more time Lexapro does not help. I'm trying to find out info on an alternative, I'm not trying to recreate the wheel.

It's a tough call to make. A few days a go, I read the results of a study with Lexapro and Effexor that showed less Lexapro patients discontinuing because of side effects compared to Effexor. But a lot of people do very well on Effexor.
You have only been on Lexapro for a few weeks. I think that you should definitely give it more time. The spacy feeling may very well go away with time. I have been on 20 mg Lexapro for about 6 months with excellent results.
For tiredness, I get good benefits with caffeine and especially with dark (not milk) chocolate. I eat about 1 ounce each day of dark chocolate which gives me a lot of energy. It might help with your spacy feeling. It's a healthy snack.
