OK dudes, i am very concerned at the moment. I have only 6 days of Nardil to go then the 10 day washout. First of all, I am feeling much sadder no (down to 45mg)
Second and this is the big prob - INSOMNIA!
Last night I needed 10mg Nitrazepam and 20mg Valium to get to sleep. I had a chem lecture at 9am which I missed. Insomnia is a no-no to me. It makes my derealization much worse. What should I do? Use Zyprexa as a sleep aid from now on and during the washout period. Also, the gut fear feeling is getting worse day by day - I'm really scared.
I'm feeling sad to leave such a good AD but the OCD kills and Nardil left a bit to be desired with the anxiety. PLEASE help! I am seeing my doc today, but I can't keep using such high doses of benzos for sleep. I just want to hurry up and swithc to Anafranil - that will HELP me sleep. I feel extremely worried. More depression, less sleep. I just want to start the Anafranil. Please give any suggestions to get me through the next 16 days to Anafranil.
I love you guys,
Ace, 45mg - fearful, upset and going down (with the Nardil dose that is)

Ace
I'm sorry that I can't give you any good advice re the med issues. The psychiatrist I'm seeing claims that a change in medications, dosage changes included, and even a new food can cause insomnia for a day or two. Knowing this does it make you feel any better?? Could you visit a sleep site to get some quick tips on helping you through this rough period? We're here if you need to chat or grumble.
BEST WISHES

First question, can you start taking the Anafranil now, w/ the Nardil?
If not, if you could get yourself some low-dose Remeron (7.5 mg/night) that should GREATLY help your insomnia.

Hi.Combining any drug that inhibits the reuptake of serotonin (5-HT) with Nardil is a big no-no. Serotonin syndrome. I was advised by one doctor not to mix Remeron with Nardil. I think he was worried about the NE alpha-2 receptor blockade releasing excess norepinephrine and raising blood pressure. I could not tolerate imipramine (Tofranil) added to Nardil. Clomipramine (Anafrinil) is much more potent than imipramine with regard to 5-HT reuptake inhibition.
I have no suggestions, sorry. I think Zyprexa is a good idea.

You asked - what should you do for your insomnia (which hopefully is transitory until you get on the Anafranil, which I know also will help you sleep!) -- you mentioned Zyprexa - well, I was on that briefly, it did sedate me a few times, but I kept having to up the dose and along with it my appetite upped. A person can gain substantial weight rapidly from that.
What about Seroquel? That is the only non-benzo I have found that really helps me sleep. I only need 100mg/night, but I know people taking 300, 600 even 900!! Those doses would have me out cold on the floor.
I'm only suggesting Seroquel because it has no affect on appetite (that I know of) and is more sedating than Zyprexa.
I can understand your feelings of worry and impatience with getting on the Anafranil. Please know that it is around the corner for you and hopefully will bring you some much needed relief.
Good luck & best wishes 2 U.

I would ask your doc for a 1 or 2 week supply of Ambien for sleep - it works.
Good luck, ace.

Zyprexa might act as an depression "band-aid" more so than Seroquel.

Not sure if this will help....Do you have time to exercise or do some activity that will help get you tired? I personally hate to do physical stuff, but I have forced myself on occasion.
Insomnia has to be the worst!!! For most of my life I have been an insomniac, never getting a good nite's sleep (back problems related to auto accident). Not sure if you would get any benefit from it, but I have taken that nite time Tylenol and it has helped me to sleep.

Insomnia is just awful....I know this first hand.
Trying some Ambien is a good idea (I think). Just make sure you can get at least about 6 hours of sleep when you take it or you 'may' be a bit groggy in the mornings upon awakening. For waking up in the middle of the night and not being able to get back to sleep you could try Sonata, from what i've been told Sonata is the best for nighttime awakenings w/out the grogginess in the morning.
Good luck to you getting some Z'sssss.

Ace,
I'd go with the Anafranil then. I took it and it did kick my ocd's asss. Go slowly as you titrate the dosage up...it will take some tweaking to find the dose that works best. Too bad Anafranil or Remeron can't be combined w/ Nardil....but I think the Anafranil may just do it all by itself (depression AND ocd)....it did for me. But give it time Ace, don't expect too much too fast. Hang in there Ace!!!! Much better times are ahead for you my friend!!!
