I am considering the use of Zoloft for SP, and have learned from multiple sources that at least 100mg seems to be most effective without the fatigue associated with lower doses. But I'm wondering if I need to start first with 50mg and then titrate up after a week, or go ahead and start with the 100mg. Anyone have experience with this?
Thanks!

I would not do that. Some dumb GP started me off at 50 mg and I had horrible s/e's that turned me off to Antidepressants for months even though I definitely needed them. I then started out on low doses and was able to move up to very high doses. I would definitely start on 25, the recommended starting dose, for a few days, move to 50 for a little while then go to 100. By the way, everyone's dosages vary, 100 may or may not work for your phobia, maybe 25 will work or maybe 200 will work or zoloft may not work at all.JACK

Hey Rocket,From experience I wouldn't suggest going straight to 100mg. When I started Zoloft I was taking once a day 12.5mg believe it or not. At that dose it still induced hypo-mania, but that went away the first week. Then I went to 25mg after a week and stayed there for two weeks. My maintanence dose was 50mg and it finally pooped-out. Even at doses of 250 it couldn't touch me after the poop-out. I wish you luck. I'm now on Nardil for my social phobia and major depression. It seems to be really good for now, but it's only my 3rd or 4th day on it (Nardil).
Best wishes!

Thanks your responses. Do any of you know if the Zoloft tabs can be cut in half without the halves losing their effectiveness?
Thanks,
Rocket

> RocketYes you can cut them in half. I suggest you get a pill spliter/cutter at your local drug store if you don't already have one. It makes a much cleaner cut than using a knife or your hand especially if they're not already scored or you are cutting it in 1/4's.

As long as it's not an extended or sustained release (I don't think Zoloft has one of those - not sure). I have heard recommendations that if you do cut your pills, don't cut all of them at once. Just cut one, and take half that day and the other half the next day. If there's any uneveness in the way the medication is distributed throughout the pill, this is supposed to help keep your dosage steady. If you get a pill cutter (just a couple bucks) from the store, it's really pretty easy, not a big chore. I hope that made some kind of sense!
