...psychopharmacologist. Long word, but these are people who specialize in the MEDS, they're scientists of a sort, not docs, and having consulted one I can say that they know their stuff. At least the one I spoke to did. She knew so much about med INTERACTIONS that my pdoc at the time was UNAWARE of it was incredible.
I don't know the difference in cost or if psychopharmacologists are covered by insurance (these are not issues for me right now and it's not worth getting into why not) -- but I would suggest that anyone who is having trouble finding a pdoc they like, trust, feel comfortable with, etc. go this route.Just a suggestion.

Interesting. When I use "pdoc" I am refering to the psychiatrist (MD) who is my psychopharmocologist, ie, he specializes in medication for psychiatric treatment.

I didn't think psychopharmacologists see patients. I thought they were more of a researcher/scientist than a doctor.

Well, maybe the same word is used in different ways in different places? Or maybe it depends on whether a psychopharm is a pharmacologist/scientist, ie, PhD, or an MD?
I don't know.
But I know that my psychiatrist is also referred to as a psychopharmacologist because of his specialty in medications for psychiatric illness.

Me too. My psychiatrist is a psychopharmacologist and doesn't do anything but prescribe and tinker with meds.

Are either of you guys from Ohio? I can't seem to find a good doctor anywhere around here.
