>1) How long did you take Nardil?
About six months.
>2) What was the highest dose taken?
120mg for the last three months.
>3) Why did you stop the medication(If you stopped)?
Never worked at all.
>4) Which were your worst side effects?
Sexual dysfunction, severe orthostatic hypotension
>5) How much time to kick in (at what dose)?
Never did.
>6) why did you used it to?
I was supposed to be taking it for social phobia/agoraphobia.
>7) How was your life , before and after Nardil?
Well... not really much point in answering this.
>8) IS it difficult to follow the diet?
The diet was easy to follow, and I was able to stray from it easily from time to time. Though I once took an Actifed (with pseudoephedrine) without thinking and developed an awful headache.
>9) How many hypertensive crisis did you have?
Well, if the Actifed experience counts, then one I suppose.
>10)Did you use any other drug together with nardi
Yes, Klonopin, Neurontin, Gabitril, and possibly Geodon. Can't remember for certain.
>11) How do you compare nardil with others drugs that you have taken before
Equal-- none of 'em worked! lol

Hey Tepiaca, I took nardil for maybe 4 weeks at 60mgs. It did absolutly nothing, just like all the other meds. I took it of course for social anxiety and moderate depression. But when i think about it im not sure the dose was high enough and i dont know if that was long enough. nardil helps alot of people with alot of improvment in social anxiety, so dont let this kill your hopes.

Sorry man 60mg is not high enough. It starts working on social anxiety at 75mg for most people. 60mg would be more of a depression dose.. Perhaps you should try another trial.

This length of time is absolutely not enough. Also, your metabolism may require a higher dose. Some people report brilliance at 90mg, nothing at 75mg. If a drug will kick in this babies the one. Try it again. It can even take up to 8 weeks, but it's a miracle of psychopharmacology!
Ace,
Nardil, 90mg., Lithium, 250mg., Valium 5-10mg prn.

> 1) How long did you take Nardil?
8 weeks.> 2) What was the highest dose taken?
75mg> 3) Why did you stop the medication(If you stopped)?
Mainly insomnia that was resistant to everything. I did experience many other side-effects as well.> 4) Which were your worst side effects?
Insomnia, sexual dysfunction, dry mouth, weight gain, memory problems...> 5) How much time to kick in (at what dose)?
4 to 6 weeks before I started to feel an effect. Clinical trials show double the effect of 6 weeks at 12 weeks.> 6) why did you used it to?
social anxiety disorder, atypical depression, etc...> 7) How was your life , before and after Nardil?
Nardil did seem to change me but not enough to justify the side-effects. I've found Paxil CR just as effective with fewer side-effects.> 8) IS it difficult to follow the diet?
It depends on you. I like better not having to worry about my diet now, though.> 9) How many hypertensive crisis did you have?
None.> 10)Did you use any other drug together with nardi
Both yes and no.> 11) How do you compare nardil with others drugs that you have taken before
My opinion is it can't be compared. The one thing I would warn you about is withdrawal. You may not experience it, but the withdrawal I had from Nardil was the worst I've ever had and I tapered slowly. The other thing is the inconvenience of a failed Nardil trial. The washout periods can be very difficult, but then, if you don't try Nardil you won't know.

>
> 1) How long did you take Nardil?
18 Years, and still on it.
> 2) What was the highest dose taken?
90mg. Past year have been on only 30mg,
occassionally alternating to 45mg every
other day.
> 3) Why did you stop the medication(If you stopped?
Pdoc wanted to give "newer" meds trial period. (forget which)
> 4) Which were your worst side effects?
INSOMNIA!! I take all the nardil in one dose in the morning--helps some with insomnia, but still must take med to help sleep.,
sometimes seriously low;dose-related
hypomania.
> 5) How much time to kick in (at what dose)?
It's hard to remember initially. Think it
may have been 2months.
> 6) why did you used it to?
Was originally Rx'd to treat severe
intractable migraines; >>BipolarII
> 7) How was your life , before and after Nardil?
Before-rapid/severe mood swings>>suicidal
depression///After-times of actually
feeling good, less social-anxiety
> 8) IS it difficult to follow the diet?
It can be a challenge at first. You do
get used to it; and you learn what you
react to.
> 9) How many hypertensive crisis did you have?
3~~2 were drug interactions (prescribed)
1 was related to a "listed" food I'd
previously eaten for years
> 10)Did you use any other drug together with nardil?
Lots. Mood-stabilizers, anxiety meds.
Currently just Lamictal, Trazadone;and I
have to take Rx pain meds, but it can be
risky, so you have to be careful.
> 11) How do you compare nardil with others drugs that you have taken before
CAN'T Compare! None other has had the anti-depressant effect Nardil has had for me; even
with its inherent dangers it's vital to me.Nardil alone has never been enough by itself, but after a long time, I'm so sensitive to it, I can take an extra pill if I need it one day, or every other day; one pill can make a big difference now.

Hi Ace, - you say you took the Nardil for a whole range of anxiety problems, I have severe GAD, SP, and moderate OCD, I've been through the full range of pharmaceuticals, presently on high dosages of effexor, paxil, 2.5mg zyprexa + sleep meds, It leaves me tired 65% of the day, and I sleep 12 hrs/day in addition to that - I remain hopeful because there was a four month period when I first started prozac that I felt motivated, no anxiety, did very well in school, social life is great, do you think Nardil is worth a try - MAOi's are only class I haven't tried.

Yes, these include OCD, GAD, SP, phobic Anxiety, Derealization (Depersonalization Syndrome), episodic depression and subclinical ADHD. All of these conditions, some immensly so, have been helped by Nardil.
I have severe GAD, SP, and moderate OCD, I've been through the full range of pharmaceuticals, presently on high dosages of effexor, paxil, 2.5mg zyprexa + sleep meds, It leaves me tired 65% of the day, and I sleep 12 hrs/day in addition to thatThis doesn't sound too good!

What you wrote above there is how I feel 100% of the time. Only a minute bit of anxiety, and a fair bit of OCD. BUT Nardil has made me SOoooo happy and confident that the anxiety hardly ever phases me. It has turned my social life from nil to going out/getting gals phone numbers all the time! I mean, with Nardil I will approach any girl, no matter how beautiful!
Also with motivation, I am LOVING my university work, studying hard and enjoying every second of it. NO DEPRESSION AT ALL. Last year, on Zoloft, I had very bad periods of the above probs.
-MAOi's are only class I haven't tried.

I went through a lot of changes evironmentaly in my life recently. I'm severely anxious - OCD GAD, SP, and Panic Attacks, Ace I thank you for your response, so encouraging, you mentioned something, that until now I hadn't give much thought, (although looking back I think it was there) you said you also suffered depersonalization, Let me give some background before I ask a question if I may, last time I came off medications was associated with a horrible period in personal life, and I expected this time that when I started coming off of Effexor, it would only add to the anxiety I was already experiencing, the opposite happened, I felt no anxiety, but I also felt like I had lost touch with myself somehow, like my mind was a house, and many of the rooms had vanished, i don't know how to describe it, but Ace, I was wondering, my psychiarist wants me to just stay on the reduced dose of effexor and be happy with where I am, but I know my potential, and I want to try nardil, but this depersonalization frightens me, I think I associated the reduction in medication with the trauma I experiencesd last time I tried to reduce medication, (my theory) at that time, I was in a n unheathly environment, and I ended up burning myself with an iron to ward off suicidal thoughts. I'm just wondering as to what I can expect as far as piecing together my personality, should I push forward with the nardil, the time is right, I'm positioned to know if the nardil will work by the time I have to start school, and I have a very supportive underwstanding work environment, I've just feel dumb, and numb, a foreign feeling, I've always been neurotic, or drunk on pills, now I'm coming off them and I feel better, this isn't normal, it's just not. Do you have any suggestions, thanks so much for your imput.Cheers, - I think highly anxious people have a lot to contribute, and can be intelligent, it's just channeling that raw intellect with the right meds or psychological/med treatment combo.

No definately not. My depression was very much episodic. At times it was intense, but only episodic. It was exogenous but endogenous at the same time, if you know what I mean. But depression has always been second to my anxiety disorders, even though it has been really bad at times.
Thanks for the question!

> Hi friend,
To me, you sound very down and detached. This upsets me. If you are indeed down this is what we must get on top of first. Once out of depression one has the motivation to look for new options in life - and that's the great thing about life - There is ALWAYS some option to turn to. We just have to find the best ones.First of all, it sounds as if your medication is not working - otherwise you wouldn't be upset like this! Tell me, do you really want to stay on the Effexor? If not get off it. If your shrink has problems with this and is not willing to give you Nardil - find another one or even go to a GP. Educate yourself as much about these drugs as you can, so the new Dr. kknows you are responsible and not to be messed around with. After all, whose body is these drugs going into?
From your above description I think these meds would work great for your symptoms.
1. Nardil 90mg
2. Nardil 90mg + Lithium + (or) Klonopin + (or) Clonazepam.Try Nardil first, if not try the below. I would do Klonopin first, but consider all.
BTW, how old are you? Are you looking foward to school? In addition to your meds try to find something in life to be passionate about - I love chemistry and could study it all day and have fun (I do!).
Please stay in touch. I feel for you. But you are strong and brave the way you are going on. Any help I can offer is more than welcome.
Post back and let me know more about yourself and how you are going. We will get through this. Period.
Ace.>
