My eyes are embarassingly (if thats a word) dilated the majority of the time, it really bothers me. I was wondering if anyone else suffers from this problem. My psychiatrist says that he doesnt doubt that one of the medications I am taking is the cause, but the information I have found on these medications never confirms that dilated eyes are indeed a side effect from the medication. I take Effexor,Remeron,Ritalin and Riperdol however my eyes were dilated even before the I added Remeron and Ritalin so its not the Ritalin which can cause this. Im wondering has anyone else suffered from this or does anyone have any information on this??

That's so weird. I was just thinking about why my pupils always dilated so much on SSRI's and how they are really responsive in general to meds, although my pupils are also huge, to the point where I've had to take a few drug tests while speeding and pulled over. It runs in my family though, my siblings and I all have eyes that look black sometimes. Othertimes normal. It's a noticeable trait. Does anyone else in your family have it? Maybe it's genetic?

I started a thread on this about two weeks ago. My pupils stayed dilated for the first three weeks of Effexor but they've stopped now. Effexor is the only medication that has done that to me. How long have you been taking the FXR??

Hi, YES. I take Effexor, and you said that your eyes(pupils?) were dilated even before you added Remeron and Ritalin so its not the Ritalin which can cause this. I, personally, have always had a "floater" in my eye-ever since I started Seroquel, but it has gotten worse since being on Effexor and so have the pupils dialation. I look at my pupils and go geez you can't even see the color of my eyes! I wonder if some meds just do that. When did you start Effexor???, and did you see the pupil dialation more after you started???
Did you start both the Resperdal and the Effexor at the same time??
I honestly believe it is the Effexor, but the Resperdal is an AP, and can do this too. Trust me......Hope this helped.

Thank you for all who have replied, I am thinking that it must be the Effexor which I started taking four months ago, I read somewhere that when pupils are dilated it means that one is most likely over medicated, I think Ill talk to my pdoc about it and see what she has to say

Your very welcome, good idea.
I read that too that when our pupils get dialated that not necessairily one is overmedicated, but also that maybe the meds are just "hitting" our systems. I got this all the time but now I think my body is so used to being on psych meds for 8 years, that I don't get the pupil thing as much anymore.
Good luck and keep us posted:-)
