Hi, I have heard a lot about Black Cohosh, I think also in 1 post here. What is it? Isn't it used for PMS or just for a healthy period?
I would like to know. Anyone?
Thank you:-)

It's supposed to be useful in decreasing the intensity of cramps. That's all I know. There have to be websites about this, though.

> KristenI have taken it for a year now. It really helped the hot flashes I got when I went off HRT. Turned them into just a blush effect.
I finally went back on the hormones at the very lowest dose but I continued the Black Cohosh just in case.

Thanks, I am 32 and don't get cramps or hot flashes. I also heard that Effexor helps with hot flashes. Whether they're related to hormones or nerves??? I wonder. I wonder if it is something I should try. I don't think so.
*curious*

Took my night sweats away. I think the sweats were hormone and anxiety related. I have about 10 years or so on your age. It's suppose to help with mood also. I've been on it less than a month but night sweats were gone in three days. No other ill effects, but I only take one med. It's not suppose to interact with anything but meds specificly given to decrease B/P or heart rate. The Reminfemin site is pretty good for info, although it is their site, so of course they make it sound great. Happy searching. BTW, good to hear you're feeling a little better !!!

I'm so glad to hear that it helps moods. I can always use that since I have a redhead's disposition. How much do you take? I take 2 540mg tabs a day...at pm and am.

Actually, I use the Remifemin stuff and that is 20 mg twice a day of extract, for a total of 40 mg per day. I guess different preparations are formulated differently. I'm still waiting for the full benefits to kick in, but the night sweats gone is great. I tried soy for about 6 months, it was OK, but I worried about the thyroid problems and thought it made me a little draggy feeling and my stomach wasn't too thrilled with it. Hope this info helps !! Best of luck to you.

Black Cohosh is an herb used for many years in Germany and Europe for women in menopause, perimenopause. It acts as an estrogen although it isn't one. I used remifemin for a few weeks and it helped with night sweats, mood and libido. I had to stop taking it because of other problems I'm having. I'm on nardil now, Just saw someone's post about black cohosh not mising with b/p or heart meds. Does anyone know more about this? Curious.

That is DOES mess with such drugs !!!!The research and resources on Black Cohosh find that it CAN lower B/P and heart rate in some indivduals. If you take meds that are doing that ... the action of the Black Cohosh, in addition to those med's action, could make for *TOO* much of what you're going for. I don't know the exact means of how the herb does this, but it is cautioned to watch for undesired lowering of both if you're on such meds. Just what I found when I researched before taking it.

You may want to check it out and see what you can find out. The MAOI's tend to increase B/P in the presence of those pesky chemicals found in the various food, drink, and OTC meds. It hard to find things that do mix well with MAOI's. My Mom took Parnate for 10 years and I did worry alot about interactions. She never had a problem, despite a few *slips* in diet. I looked to see if I could find something specific to Nardil and BC use and couldn't find much. So, check it out if you are really wanting to give the BC a try. Good Luck to you !!!
