SERIOUS Nardil question...ALL respond please

Posted by ace on March 6, 2003, at 18:54:21

OK my fellow Nardil and/or Parnate whores,

I am now on 120mg.

This is obviously high dose.

I will stay on this dose probably for a fair time.

But such a dose, in my opinion, requires laboratory testing (sporadically of course)

Just over 3 months I have been on Nardil. In 2 or 3 months I plan the following tests...

1. Chemscreen
2. urine analysis
3. bone marrow tests
4. LFT (Liver Function Test)
5. FBC (Full Blood Count)
6. Platelet MAO activity

I gleaned these tests from erudite medical literature, but I'm sure there is more.

Please...has anyone had any others or could think of others???

Ace.
Nardil, 120mg.

Hey Ace... I've been reading your posts for a while. They're great! I've been on Nardil for only two weeks now, and I'm only at 45mg, but I can already tell it's working. I'm taking it mostly for social anxiety. Anyway, maybe you could test for levels of cortisol. If you can even test for that... I'm not sure. BTW at what dose did you notice your social anxiety getting better? I have OCD too, but right now I'm trying to focus on the social stuff which is much more disruptive to my well-being. Later :)

OK, The Nardil slut is here!,

60mg saw a BRILLIANT relief of Depressive sympoms. 90mg saw me happy 100% all the time and around 45% reduction of OCD. 120mg thus far (2 days) has seen (already) a further 10-15 % relief in OCD (my Main concern). All anxiety sympoms subsided around 60mg but once again 90mg really drummed their fat ass in the ground. OCD is next on the hit list. 6 weeks on 120mg and not 90% or more relief we add Zyprexa.

BTW, you say socias anxiety was a big prob 4 u. B4 Nardil I could not eat in public and was very shy of gals. Now I can eat a burger in front of 50 people and spill the bugger all over me and wouldn't give a hoot. Also, I am normally getting 3 email or phone numbers a DAY from chicks. I'm so friggin confident on Nardil...it works dude. This chick is all over me. I haveny had sex since I was 20 (24 now). It's gunna be hard cause Nardil is not friendly with Ace's willy, but I'm sure with a nice chick in front of me I wil' 'get there'..if u know what I mean!! Ha! Ha!

It was a pleasure answering your qstn and I urger you to tell everyone the majic Nardil brings....

It should be your doctor who determines your tests needed. I don't mean that in a nasty way, just they obviously have very specific chemical and biological knowledge about these things. You seem to be doing well with your own self-observation of how well Nardil is working, so let them look after more technical issues.

Best,
Jay

Hello all...

I'm going to start An MAOI the end of the month. Got to wein off paxil first. After 10 days off paxil, I can gradually start Parnate while I'm still on imipramine. Will taper off imip while adding parnate. I was relieved that this can be done. My atypical depression is overwhelming and I would NEVER be able to make it through the washout period. This was some of the info that Dr. Ivan Goldberg from Depression Central web site gave me. I am so grateful for his expert knowledge. I'm printing the info he gave me and taking it to my pdoc this month. I think my pdoc will be open to introducing this drug this way.
I'd like to hear some info on the MAOI's from any of you. Has anyone tried both? What differences are the both as far as side effcts? Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

Laura.

P.S. Ace, if you read this, I get a kick out of your posts. Maybe I'll join you as the Nardil Queen. Ha Ha!!!!!

Laura - Best of luck to you!
My daughter will be talking to her pdoc next week about possibly trying an MAOI soon after years of unsatisfactory results with SSRI's. Please keep us informed how it works for you. Again, all the best.

caha...

Thanks for the support. I've known for years that this drug will respond to my type of depression. Too many pdocs are too conservative and stay away from prescribing them. I had to swith to a new pdoc due to insurance purposes last spring. Finally someone who really listens to me and is willing to trial Parnate.
Here are all the drug combinations I've been on over the years.

imipramine/klonopin
imipramine/wellbutrin/klonopin
imipramine/paxil/depakote
Paxil/lithium
imipramine/paxil/lithium
paxil/wellbutrin SR
imipramine/prozac
imipramine/paxil/lamictal

My atypical symptoms are.. hyperphagia, hypersomnia, social anxiety, leaden feeling in extremities when fatigued, confusion and concentration problems.

My condition is exacerbated with change of the season. Worst being late winter to mid spring. I love the fall. I always get a burst of energy and am able to cut back on my meds for several months.

Tell me about your daughter.

Thanks,
Laura

Hi Laura - I've always loved the fall too. I wish I could find a place that was like fall all year long. I've never been fond of the spring.

The meds you list are familiar to me except imipramine, klonopin, and lamictal. My daughter has been on all you list except the above. She's also been on Paxil, Effexor, Zoloft, Celexa, Ritalin, Risperdal, Geodon, and Remeron. She's been on Geodon since late October and started Remeron about two weeks ago. It made her sleep 15+ hours a day at first but recently lifted her depression some. She's also on Prozac but it's not doing anything.

Many of the symptoms you list are exactly what she has and she's also been psychotic in the past. The Geodon stopped that thankfully. But her depression is relentless. She's also got the leaden feelings and social anxiety you have.

She has another appointment this week and he'll probably up the Remeron. She has a good relationship with him and he's knowledgable. Like so many others, she's had some bad experiences with doctors too. I remember a guy on another board who said he got better treatment at Midas Muffler than he did from one doctor. Unfortunately all too true sometimes.

So, have you tried both Parnate and Nardil? Were you able to start the Parnate again already? I hope it works well for you soon. Have you had depression long?

All the best - Carol
