> delnaPaxil...that's interesting. SSRI's are usually very lacklustre for OCD. The older drugs are better in my opinion. BTW, have you gone through the horrid withdrawal yet? If not, be careful..

I've had some success with Prozac, and a number of years later, Paxil. Although several meds are FDA-approved to treat OCD, there's really no guarantee with any of them. In my case, it's a constant battle, even with the help of meds. I am currently weaning off Paxil CR due to side effects (weight gain) and am looking into behavior therapy. May I suggest the book, "Brain Lock: Free Yourself from Obsessive-Compulsive Behavior" by Jeffrey M. Schwartz, MD. In his book, he shows you behavior therapy techniques you can use to fight OCD and beat it. He explains how by applying his techniques, you can change how you respond to your intrusive thoughts & urges and in doing so, you can actually physically change the way your brain works. It's quite interesting and makes a lot of sense...one of the best resources on OCD I've seen yet. Taking an SSRI such as Prozac or Paxil may help you to some degree, but with OCD being the chronic problem it is, I would also suggest behavior therapy, if you're hoping for long-term success. Good luck, and keep us posted!

Risperdal added to celexa did the trick for me in a big way. However, not everyone is willing to take an atypical. I take 2 mg (I started out at 1- have recently had to go up to 2. I suspect it may be pooping out). That and some good cognitive therapy.

Prozac ELIMINATED all of my OCD symptoms....it was amazing! I was on 30-40 mg/day (only took it for two months, stopped because of sexual side effects).
Effexor helped somewhat, but stopped working after a few weeks at the max dose (450 mg).
Remeron, reboxetine, tianeptine, and wellbutrin didn't help my OCD at all. It could be argued that WB made it sligthly worse.
I've been taking zoloft for a month now (75mg/day), and so far my OCD has been worse :-/ I don't really know what to do...I had high hopes seeing as I responded well to prozac, and the sexual side effects of the zoloft are very tolerable...ah well, I think I might just switch to prozac.

I took it for ages...I don't know why! It helped my OCD MINIMALLY and did nothing for my anxiety. It truly is a lacklustre drug. It's interesting Prozac worked for you...I have little faith in any SSRI drugs. The 'old faithfuls' are the best.

SSRIs in high doses and Anfranil,a tricyclic antidepressant, are widely used.I report a good response to OCD by adding omega-3 fish oil to regular medication in www.omega3.20megsfree.com
