Hi,
I'm not sure what my diagnosis is. Some doctors are saying my depression and OCD are causing psychosis, schizoaffective disorder, or schizophrenia. Other doctors say my 'weird' or 'psychotic' symptoms are from anxiety. If anyone has psychotic symptoms could you please describe them to me so I could compare them to what I have.
Thank you,
Dave

Hi Dave,
I don't want to go into details about my illness but when I am not well I hear voices almost constantly. The AP's have been extremely helpful in silencing the voices. I also have other psychotic features but they never bothered me as much as the voices. If you hear voices I would recommend you find an AP that works on them. I hope this helps.

HI,
I've tried all the atypical APs except clozaril. Do you no anything about that?
Thanks,
Dave

Clozaril may be your best option if all the other atypicals have failed. It is shown to be effective in many people who are resistant to all other treatments. I definitely think you should give it a try if you are treatment resistant. It is quite a hassle to take (with blood work and risks like seizures) but works great on some people. If it doesn't work, you could just stop it.
Have you tried the older meds, like Haldol or Thorazine? Sometimes the older meds work better for some people.
Some people take more than one AP. This strategy is very experimental and is not proven to be superior to one med. In fact, some professionals think it is worse because it might cause tardive dyskinesia more often.
There are a lot of options for people with psychotic symptoms. I hope you find something that works soon.
