Well my pdoc didn't tell me, the pharmacy said don't worry about it, and I missed the microscopic wording in the pamphlet, but I guess Topamax can decrease the effectiveness of the pill. Anyone else's pdoc share this with them? What other options of contraceptive would it not effect? Norplant? Deprovera? I'm freaking out!

Luckily my pdoc was treating me when I had a tubal done, but he still called me after prescribing topa, just to reassure himself I wasn't on birth control pills when I started taking it. I am not sure what else you can use, but I definetly would not listen to the pharmacy!! Maybe call your gyno and see what they would suggest as an alternative.

My PDoc neglected to tell me when he put me on Tegretol that it would interfer with the contraceptive pill. Luckily I had a quick look on the internet and had it confirmed with the pharmacist. It definitely pays to double check these things yourself if your PDoc 'forgets' to.
