What's wrong with DXM?

Posted by Joel Maxuel on December 6, 2002, at 19:17:17

I'm kinda interested, and although this isn't the right board to do it in, there is enough smart people here to deal with this question. I heard something about brain damage a while back about dextromorphan, and I'd like to know if it is really true (and if it's worse than pot). YTour thoughgts are valuable.

Let's try this again.

I've used Robitussin DM for over 20 years when a cold or the flu hits. I find it very effective for the upper respriratory problems and cough with little side effects. I don't abuse it, and know many others who also use this syrup with no problems.

These illnesses usually last about a week and I find that I use about 1-2 bottles of the syrup depending on the severity of the event.

FYI, I have PAD and have had it since a toddler.

I'd be interested in your thoughts on the use of this syrup in the manner I descibed above.

What is Robo-ing?

Thanks

So it does say brain damage, but apparently only when you "use DXM so often that it becomes damaging. Besides, like any other psychedelic it loses its magick when used too often. "

it used to take me half a bottle of robo to get high, now it takes 3/4 of a bottle. I only take it occasionally, (no more than 10 times over half a year, I smoke pot more often) and I don't redose, although once I did drink a whole bottle. However, words don't usually come to me as good as they used to (or they never did in the first place, i'm not sure), I forgot abotu the name of erowids site. Maybe its tiem to quit for a while.

There was this time when I was like 4 years old, and I self served myself to 2 tablespoons of Benylin DM, which at that age would be the equicalant to half a bottle now. But anyways, I was stoned out of my mind for two days, at least thats what my parents tell me. Maybe thats when I got my depression and pchizophrenia.
