Combining antidepressant drugs (Effexor and Remeron) was the biggest mistake of my life. I will probably spend the rest of my life regretting the day that I took that brain damaging combination of drugs. Ever since then I have had extreme and immediate reactions to any drug that I have taken, even in single minute doses and their effect has lasted for months afterwards. Anyone considering combos of psychotropic drugs should think about it very carefully.

And was the biggest success for me, now for over 7 years. YMMV.
Absolute statements based on just one persons
experiences are flawed.

Oracle, what are you treating and with what dosages and time of day? I'm considering the same combination for severe GAD with ADD.

ADD and Depression. I take 15 mgs Remeron and 300 mgs Effexor XR.
Effexor is not for everyone, but for me it is fantastic. I have been on this since 1996-97.

I think it's great that you were saved, Oracle.
Unfortunately, the small, and unlikely, risk that rjk can attest to having may be too much of a risk to try a med combo in all but the most exceptional cases.
There's no way of predicting what one's responsible will be too such a combo. Obviously it's contraindicated in a med-sensitive, as any doc who's worth his M.D. would know. But treatments really should be exausted beforehand, including CBT and maybe even a stim.
Depression, in my view, is more of a "legit" reason for going on a combo. My p-doc trying to put me on a combo when he KNOWS a low dose of Klonopin will work but wants me to "avoid the benzos" is STUPID. That's ignoring a safe and effective med and needlessly risking a combo that may not even work anyway.
This is the end of the thread.
