i heard that ADD dudes were extra sensitive to caffeinebut while caffeine helps me concentrate it also makes me a bit more hyper rather than zen like calm -- does this mean i don't have ADD??
is there a difference between how caffeine makes you feel and how adderall or ritalin or desoxyn makes you feel?
thanks for all the info guys... i won't forget you when i'm rich and famous, hah hah :)

Don't know where you heard that, but I'd hazard a guess that caffeine affects people with ADD in diff ways just like it does regular people. For me, caffeine does nothing - nada, zilch. Nothing at all. It's possible if caffeine were to affect me, I'd need very high doses but why bother. I don't feel any different from two Wake-Up pills (the equivalent of 2 cups strong coffee). I can sleep through it. So much for the sensitivity of people with ADD to caffeine - at least in me. But wait to see what others say too.

Supposedly caffeine has a calming effect on people with ADD. In fact one of the ways we discovered I was ADD was that I drank at least six or seven diet Cokes a day (usually more). People with ADD are notorious for self-medicating with caffeine. However, oddly enough, the caffeine in coffee makes me really anxious (can't drink it). For me adderall helps me focus and makes me calmer than caffeine, but I still drink a significant amount of diet Coke even with the Adderall.

>>yeah, me too, I told my p-doc on my first visit that caffiene makes me calm, and then he's like "yeah, ADD" and I was like "what!??! oh, ok, that explains why I never could concentrate for the past 18 years..."
And it seemed more zen-like in Coke than coffee... I always loved O-Ding on Coke. I really do push the limits of the "free refill" policies when I go out to eat. I average about 8 glasses per sitting. And that's only because by the 9nth request the waiter says "he's cutting me off" because he thinks I'm bottling and re-selling it.
I think it's the sugar, too... sugar in inattentive ADD types. At least for me, I love Sour Patch Kids to the point where my tongue is bleeding and I'm still popping them into my mouth. Must. have. sugar.
Speaking of which, someone really does need to invent like a tongue guard so I can happily enjoy excessive amounts of these somehow vegan-compliant sugar candies.
Then again, I'd probably ingest a toxic amount if I didn't have to deal with the tongue bleeding...

I drink 2 20 oz.Diet Mt.Dews and eat a few breakfast bars that have adequate amounts of sugar each morning before I go to work.It seems,at least for about an hour, that it gets me "started up"before my meds kick in.Then throughout the day,I,ll drink water and Diet Dew all day long and stay just so-so.(by then the Adderrall has gotten me on a plane so it,s hard to see any further difference in caffeine effects. My 7 yr. old(ADHD,same as dad)goes off to the moon if she gets into any Caffiene soda and/or sugar. It totally wires her.Go figure.Festus
