At this time of the year, my thyroid always crashes. (I have hashimoto's thyroiditis, which in my case causes hypothyroidism.)
When my thyroid crashes, I become correspondingly more obsessive. (I start _planning_ things a lot, making lists of things to do, making schedules, etc., but not necessarily carrying them out. But writing them down just makes me feel better somehow.) It usually takes a few months to straighten out my thyroid, and when the weather warms up both my physical and mental health improve.
Does anyone else see an increase in obsessive behavior with low thyroid? And is there anything you do to deal with it?

Hi,
I also noticed a connection between thyroid dysfunction and worsening of the same kind of ocd symptoms (making lists and writing things down). I have had bouts of both hyper and hypothyroidism but my ocd got worse during the hyperthyroid period.
If that is what is underlying your increased obsessiveness, it seems that the most effective way to deal with it would be to treat the thyroiditis. Are you receiving treatment for it now?
It is difficult enough to suffer from such a troubling disorder as ocd; the complications caused by additional endocrine imbalances are downright unbearable!
Hope you feel better,
Kari.

Please don't post anything that could lead others to feel accused or put down, OK? Thanks,
Bob

The people over at alt.support.thyroid are very helpful, and someone has probably been through what you experiencing. I don't know what you thought I meant, but I meant to be supportive.

I have come to discover that some take offence if you suggest ways for them to access information on their own. It took me a while to get it, I thought I was helping by posting nice google url's
with the search terms included. I do not understand this.

oracle, if you just say 'try this site,' it sounds like saying 'go away, i don't want to hear about this problem.' it's all about framing and context. if you said 'i saw an interesting article that might help you over here,' or 'the people at such.and.such forum are helpful,' it comes off differently than if you just spew the info.
