I've been on lexapro now for a few weeks and something strange has happeneed twice. After eating something high in sugar, i have vomited. The first time it happened I had eaten waffles with real maple syrup (haven't had that in ages, usually Aunt Jemima will do) and became ill. Horrble headache, vomiting, even the skin on my face felt like it was stretched too tight. Didn't assign too much meaning to it until it happened again last night. Making cookies, I ate some of the dough and same exact reaction. Vomiting, headache, skin too tight. Anyone have similar reactions? It seems as though I can't tolerate sugar oin the lexapro. I'm also concerned about diabetes because I've gained 50 pds. this year between celexa and risperdal and have had some hypoglycemic events.

Might want to call your doc on that one. Is there diabetes in your family?

I just switched from celexa to lexapro... on celexa, i had some sexual side effects, mainly less desire and ejac.problems... i switched to lexapro recently - is rash (itchiness really) and/or shortness of breath possible side effects? Are there any ingredients in lexapro that could cause this? I never experienced either on celexa... also, does lexapro REALLY help the sexual side effects? How long to be on it before you notoice a difference?

Are you itching since starting Lexapro? No rash?
How bad is the itching and is it all the time or just at certain times?
How short of breath?

would be "gasping" for breath for quite a while after taking it... several hours... a general "tight" feeling in my chest.... itching not as bad

Gasping for breath after taking your med means you need to either go to the ER or talk to your doc tomorrow. Especially with itching.
It could be dangerous, sounds like it is already.

I agree with Phil! I had a very itchy rash mainly on my upper body and shortness of breath a while back...I went to the ER ONLY b/c my mom made me. Turns out, I was deathly allergic to sulfa (sp?) meds. I had only taken 2 of them when this happened. I had taken them plenty of times years ago, but apparently I had since developed an allergy! I was pretty lucky to get to the ER when I did....my airway was swelling rapidly (hence the shortness of breath) and I could've died from asphyxiation!
I would DEFINITELY check in with your doc ASAP....if it gets ANY worse at all, go to the ER immediately...if you don't have anyone to take you, call 911...don't try to drive! Allergies are really scary =/
Good luck to you! I hope it's not something so serious, but it's better to be safe than sorry!Myst
